Overfamiliarity, they say, brings
contempt. We have so spoken of change to the point that it has become a cliché
rather than a word that provokes action. Asking for change has become a fad because
most times, even those asking for it have no intentions of making any change. All
of us actually think we want change but the truth of the matter is, most of us
want change to happen elsewhere where we are not involved. It is said that the
only thing that is constant in life is change but it is also known that one of
the most difficult ventures to embark on in life is change because it usually
involves leaving our comfort zone. Altering your way of doing things, changing
your associates or even changing your environment are things that people
approach with trepidation. However, the only way forward is the way of change,
these might not be life altering changes but from one level of living to
another we will need to make some changes. The only way to start on the path of
significant change is discontent with your present conditions. You cannot
succeed in making any proper change by imitating others; you must be discontent
enough with your present situation in order for you to be ready to pay the
price for change. No one can make any worthwhile change without paying a price
and it is your level of discontent that will drive you to pay whatever price it
takes. Are you ready to pay the price or you are satisfied just talking about
change? Do have beautiful day!

emphasizing the role
of stewardship in leadership is to help stress the fact that leaders who do not
serve have no mission to the people. Whether they be corporate, social or
political leaders they cannot function optimally if they do not have the
interest of the people they are meant to serve at heart. There is no leader
without people who are heading towards a common purpose that need direction from
a steward who understand this and is committed to bringing them and their gifts
together to help accomplish it. If they do not see leadership from this
perspective, they would be self-serving and oppressive because they have taken
on an assignment they do not understand. It therefore means they have no vision
that will enable them carry out the mission of developing the people and the
organization or society. Since there is no vision, there is nothing to
communicate to those they are leading and this brings about a disconnect
between the leaders and the led. This atmosphere of mistrust and acrimony can
be so chaotic that the society or organization will just be moving in circles
without any meaningful progress. The only way to have a people- friendly
leadership is for the leader to be exactly sure of what the mission is and to
develop a vision that will ensure that this mission will be accomplished. Since
real leaders know that no one can achieve a dream by themselves, they must
properly communicate their vision to those they are to serve and work in tandem
to accomplish the mission. Do have a really great week!

seems as if we are having
little effect on those to whom we are talking. I believe that this is due to
the fact that what is more important is being left out while we focus on the
glamour of the position and what it entails. Until we resolve the issue of
stewardship, there is really little that can be done to improve our leadership
style. Those aspiring for leadership positions or those on whom these positions
have been thrust by life have to be made to realize what they hold in trust for
those they are leading. In whatever sphere that we find ourselves in leadership,
the onus is upon us to understand that the reason our gifts and talents have
fetched us these positions is to galvanize the talents of those under us in a
bid to make life better for everybody. Even if you forced your way into that
position, someone who understands stewardship will use those same skills to
achieve their vision. Sadly though, is the fact that many who get into leadership
positions, legitimately or otherwise, do not understand stewardship. If we forget
that we are stewards to those we lead in order for us to help them lead a
better life, then we have no business being in leadership. We, as Africans,
must come to this realization if we intend to make any progress. Leadership is
not an opportunity for power play, it is a privilege given to people to serve
and improve the sphere of our leadership. Leaders have to stop bleeding the
people they are meant to serve and nurture. An exalted leader is one who guides
their sheep to greener pastures not one who feeds from the greener pastures and
leaves the dead grass for the sheep. Do have a lovely day!
