DON'T LET YOUR LIGHT BE DIMMED. - NE LAISSE PAS TA LUMIÈRE S'ÉTEINDRE.

It is sad to see people beg and even bribe to get what is theirs by right. The worst part is when someone who knows what their rights are in that kind of community tries to demand what they deserve, the ignorant majority starts to query them as if they are going too far. When the larger population is ignorant, it rubs off on the informed minority because of the influence of the crowd or peer pressure. Unfortunately, if care is not taken, this informed group of people will begin to behave like the ignorant ones. This mindset is incapable of letting people identify the needs nor the solutions and what their actual position and strengths are as a community. 

The best way to keep yourself on top of this kind of situation is to do all that is within your power to educate those close to you. Assisting other people with the knowledge you possess is something that is beneficial to both parties. It helps the knowledgeable one become more grounded and even to uncover aspects that were overlooked. There should be joy in making people better by sharing knowledge and helping them become part of a growth culture. Unfortunately, we now live in a world where this is no longer the norm. In which case if anyone wants to make a difference, they have to be prepared to go the extra mile by taking time to make the necessary sacrifice of finding ways to share valuable knowledge. The problem with this is that if you do not approach this with caution, you can become the enemy. 

Most developing nations, as seen in many African societies, are guilty of shielding the large percentage of their population from knowledge relevant for growth and development. It gives the impression that this is a deliberate effort on the part of relevant authorities to keep it that way so that they can continue in their lawlessness and oppression. For those who still want to be of assistance and make the community a better place, this is a risk that they should be willing to take. These are those who have made up their minds that they will not allow this self-centered lifestyle to continue around them. There is no greater gift you can give someone than shining the light of knowledge on the shadow of ignorance. Furthermore, this should come out of a place of genuine concern for growth and development. As humans, we are made for relationships. It is so important that we understand this because it is not something you can choose to ignore, people are with you everywhere and every time. Life is made or marred by the way we handle our association with others.

Il est triste de voir des gens mendier, voire corrompre, pour obtenir ce qui leur revient de droit. Le pire, c'est que lorsqu'une personne consciente de ses droits dans ce type de communauté tente de les revendiquer, la majorité ignorante la remet en question, comme si elle allait trop loin. Lorsque la majorité est ignorante, cette ignorance finit par déteindre sur la minorité informée, par effet d'entraînement ou pression sociale. Malheureusement, si l'on n'y prend garde, ce groupe informé risque d'adopter le même comportement que les ignorants. Cet état d'esprit empêche les gens d'identifier les besoins, les solutions, ni de prendre conscience de leur véritable position et de leurs forces en tant que communauté.

Le meilleur moyen de maîtriser ce genre de situation est de faire tout son possible pour éduquer ses proches. Partager ses connaissances est bénéfique pour tous. Cela permet à la personne informée de consolider ses acquis et même de découvrir des aspects négligés. Il devrait y avoir de la joie à contribuer à l'épanouissement des autres en partageant ses connaissances et en les aidant à s'intégrer à une culture de croissance. Malheureusement, nous vivons aujourd'hui dans un monde où cela n'est plus la norme. Dès lors, quiconque souhaite avoir un impact doit être prêt à faire des efforts supplémentaires en consacrant du temps et du temps au sacrifice nécessaire pour trouver des moyens de partager des connaissances précieuses. Le problème, c'est que si l'on n'aborde pas cette démarche avec prudence, on risque de se retourner contre soi.

La plupart des pays en développement, comme on le constate dans de nombreuses sociétés africaines, sont coupables de priver une grande partie de leur population des connaissances essentielles à leur croissance et à leur développement. Cela donne l'impression qu'il s'agit d'une volonté délibérée de la part des autorités compétentes de maintenir cet état de fait afin de perpétuer l'anarchie et l'oppression. Pour ceux qui souhaitent encore apporter leur aide et améliorer la communauté, c'est un risque qu'ils doivent être prêts à prendre. Ce sont ceux qui ont décidé de ne pas laisser perdurer ce mode de vie égocentrique. Il n'y a pas de plus beau cadeau que d'éclairer l'obscurité de l'ignorance par la lumière du savoir. De plus, cette démarche doit être motivée par un véritable souci de la croissance et du développement. En tant qu'êtres humains, nous sommes faits pour les relations. Il est essentiel de le comprendre, car on ne peut l'ignorer : les autres nous accompagnent partout et à chaque instant. Notre vie est façonnée, pour le meilleur ou pour le pire, par la manière dont nous entretenons nos relations.

YOU ARE PART OF A WHOLE. - VOUS FAITES PARTIE D'UN TOUT.

The creation of sustainable culture requires models. The idea of being the chief innovator and change agent that should be revered, is not good for the development of any community. Whatever has been introduced should be replicated as many times as possible to create an overarching atmosphere of growth and progress. The most important thing someone who wants to add value to any community should do, is create models that can be replicated by as many as are interested in following their footsteps. It is useless for one person to run with an idea that will be of no use to anyone when they are no longer around. 

It is not possible to change the way a community approaches life without getting as many people involved as possible. When an innovator teaches people to be inquisitive and makes them realise innovation is not the exclusive preserve of anybody, it helps them come out of their shells. This encourages and enables people to interpret things in a way that helps them to add their unique edge to already existing creations. By doing so, this collective effort will further improve the progress that is being made in the community. In no time with people willing to assist one another, things will move farther, faster. The development of a community is dependent on how much assistance we can get from each other. When we are ready to share knowledge and assist others to understand their role in improving the quality of life, it makes everyone who is interested understand and begin to research ways of becoming a part of the process. 

What puts a lot of people off is the fact that they do not believe that they can be a part of anything and they never try to prove themselves wrong. At the same time, those who have been able to find their feet refuse to lend a helping hand to encourage those who are not confident enough to try. It is unfortunate that some people like the idea of being lords, so they try to retain monopoly by discouraging those who want to play any kind of role in the affairs of the community. This is injurious to the community and it can continue to hold it back for generations. This kind of behaviour creates a culture of selfishness and greed. The decision to add value must be selfless in order for it to have any lasting effect. No quest to add value is worth its salt if it cannot help the community to move from one era to another. Every contribution should be able to give some kind of leverage to whoever is interested in joining the train.

La création d'une culture durable exige des modèles. L'idée d'être le principal innovateur et agent du changement, voué à être vénéré, est néfaste au développement de toute communauté. Tout ce qui a été introduit doit être reproduit autant de fois que possible afin de créer un climat général de croissance et de progrès. Le plus important pour quiconque souhaite apporter une valeur ajoutée à une communauté est de créer des modèles reproductibles par tous ceux qui souhaitent suivre son exemple. Il est inutile qu'une seule personne poursuive une idée qui deviendra obsolète quand elle ne sera plus là.

Il est impossible de changer la façon dont une communauté aborde la vie sans impliquer le plus grand nombre de personnes possible. Lorsqu'un innovateur encourage la curiosité et fait comprendre que l'innovation n'est le domaine réservé de personne, il aide les gens à s'épanouir. Cela encourage et permet à chacun d'interpréter les choses de manière à apporter sa touche personnelle aux créations existantes. Ainsi, cet effort collectif contribuera à renforcer les progrès réalisés au sein de la communauté. Avec la volonté de s'entraider, les choses progresseront rapidement. Le développement d'une communauté repose sur l'entraide. Lorsque nous sommes prêts à partager nos connaissances et à aider les autres à comprendre leur rôle dans l'amélioration de la qualité de vie, cela incite tous ceux qui sont intéressés à comprendre et à chercher comment s'impliquer.

Ce qui décourage beaucoup de gens, c'est leur manque de confiance en eux et leur refus de se remettre en question. Parallèlement, ceux qui ont réussi refusent d'aider ceux qui manquent de confiance en eux. Malheureusement, certains, avides de pouvoir, cherchent à monopoliser le pouvoir en décourageant toute participation à la vie communautaire. Ce comportement nuit à la communauté et peut la freiner pendant des générations. Il engendre une culture d'égoïsme et d'avidité. Pour avoir un impact durable, la décision d'apporter une valeur ajoutée doit être désintéressée. Aucune tentative d'apporter une valeur ajoutée n'est valable si elle ne contribue pas à faire évoluer la communauté. Chaque contribution doit offrir un avantage quelconque à quiconque souhaite se joindre à l'aventure.

YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR FRAME. - VOUS POUVEZ CHANGER VOTRE CADRE.

We need, especially as Africans, to look beyond our disheartening projections of the future to what contributions we can individually make to alter situations around us in any way we can. This, however, is a tough choice to make because you will always wonder what your drop in the ocean would change. Nonetheless, no one can make a difference by staring at and enlarging the frame of the challenges. We need to brace ourselves by changing the frame and focusing on something we can do to change the course of the flow. The magnitude is extremely overwhelming but when we narrow the frame to something we can handle within our circle of influence or our immediate community, it puts our little contributions in a better and more encouraging perspective.

 We all run around conferences discussing issues from our theoretical points of view, but at times all it takes is a call to action on our part to stem the tide around us. What is the use of an anti-corruption summit when the ecosystem fosters the disease? When we value and build the individuals who build and run the systems and the institutions, the viral count will begin to reduce. Corruption is a contagious disease spread by humans, we need to deal with its distribution chain to make sure we are not contaminated. You cannot effectively fight a disease that has infected you, so the first port of call is to extricate yourself from the mental space where the virus is festering. An environment that is ‘clean’ encourages growth and development. When people see that kind of environment that caters for their needs and encourages their growth, they will naturally begin to contribute to its growth and development.

 Human beings will care for what cares for them, until people see an environment that can secure their lives and development, they will not put in their best to develop it. We need to stop talking and start acting, our inaction is too loud for people to hear what we are saying. Stop waiting for the government or others to do something before you do what you are capable of doing to change and improve a situation. Each day is a choice to use the opportunities around us as points of entry to make our contributions. Until you put yourself in that mental space, you will continue to be a part of the problem since you did not do what you had the ability to do to become part of the solution. We need to stop waiting for others who are also waiting for us. You never know who could see you and be inspired to contribute their little quota.

Nous devons, en particulier en tant qu'Africains, dépasser nos projections pessimistes quant à l'avenir et réfléchir aux contributions que nous pouvons apporter individuellement pour modifier, à notre échelle, la situation qui nous entoure. C'est un choix difficile, car on se demande toujours quel impact aura notre contribution, même minime. Pourtant, on ne peut rien changer en se contentant de contempler les problèmes et de les élargir. Il nous faut nous préparer en changeant de perspective et en nous concentrant sur ce que nous pouvons faire pour infléchir le cours des choses. L'ampleur du problème est extrêmement difficile à gérer, mais en le circonscrivant à ce que nous pouvons accomplir dans notre sphère d'influence ou au sein de notre communauté immédiate, nos modestes contributions prennent une dimension plus positive et encourageante.

Nous passons notre temps à discuter de problèmes théoriques lors de conférences, mais parfois, un simple appel à l'action suffit à endiguer le courant. À quoi sert un sommet anticorruption si l'écosystème alimente le fléau ? Lorsque nous valorisons et soutenons les personnes qui construisent et gèrent les systèmes et les institutions, le nombre de victimes commencera à diminuer. La corruption est une maladie contagieuse propagée par les humains. Nous devons enrayer sa chaîne de transmission pour éviter d'être contaminés. On ne peut lutter efficacement contre une maladie qui nous a infectés ; la première chose à faire est donc de se libérer de l'emprise mentale du virus. Un environnement sain favorise la croissance et le développement. Lorsque les individus constatent qu'un tel environnement répond à leurs besoins et encourage leur épanouissement, ils y contribuent naturellement.

Les êtres humains prennent soin de ce qui prend soin d'eux. Tant qu'ils n'auront pas un environnement capable de garantir leur sécurité et leur développement, ils ne s'investiront pas pleinement. Il est temps d'agir, pas de parler. Notre inaction est trop assourdissante pour que l'on entende notre message. N'attendons plus que le gouvernement ou d'autres agissent pour faire ce que nous sommes capables de faire afin de changer et d'améliorer la situation. Chaque jour est une occasion de saisir les opportunités qui s'offrent à nous et d'apporter notre contribution. Tant que vous n'aurez pas adopté cet état d'esprit, vous continuerez de faire partie du problème, car vous n'aurez pas fait ce que vous pouviez pour contribuer à la solution. Il est temps d'arrêter d'attendre les autres, qui nous attendent eux aussi. On ne sait jamais qui pourrait vous voir et être inspiré à apporter sa petite contribution.
