The power of influence is largely
underestimated when it comes to what one person can do to change a situation. Just
as leaders have the power to influence things, the citizens also wield a power
that they often refuse to use. I have observed that human beings work better by
association; it takes one person to start a m
ob and it also takes one person to
start a progressive movement. That means as a citizen you can use your
influence to do something to benefit or destroy society even when you are not
in a leadership position. It takes one person to influence others not to pay
tax because government is not doing anything and it also takes one person to
convince others to pay tax in the same circumstances and lead them to proffer a
solution to the problem. Either way, it will take time for the influence to
mature and for others to catch on but most times, it is unfortunate people are
drawn quicker to bad influence. As citizens we should endeavor to do what is
right for the good of society because you can never know who your decision will
influence to bring about change. If we are waiting for a perfect government to
do what is right, we will die waiting and our chance to change society for good
will be wasted as it has happened to many who have gone to the great beyond. Whenever
an opportunity presents itself for you to do something about a situation,
always remember that whatever your decision is, you would be influencing
someone, somewhere either positively or negatively whether you are a leader or

Tout comme les dirigeants ont le pouvoir d'influencer les choses, les citoyens exercent également un pouvoir qu'ils refusent souvent d'utiliser. J'ai observé que les êtres humains travaillent mieux par association; il faut une personne pour démarrer une foule et il faut aussi une personne pour démarrer un mouvement progressiste. Cela signifie qu'en tant que citoyen, vou
s pouvez utiliser votre influence pour faire quelque chose qui profite ou détruit la société, même lorsque vous n'êtes pas en position de leadership. Il faut une personne pour inciter les autres à ne pas payer d'impôt parce que le gouvernement n'en fait rien et il faut aussi une personne pour convaincre les autres de payer des impôts dans les mêmes circonstances et les amener à proposer une solution au problème. Quoi qu'il en soit, il faudra du temps pour que l'influence mûrisse et que les autres la comprennent, mais la plupart du temps, il est regrettable que les gens soient attirés plus rapidement vers une mauvaise influence. En tant que citoyens, nous devons nous efforcer de faire ce qui est juste pour le bien de la société, car vous ne pouvez jamais savoir qui votre décision influencera pour provoquer le changement. Si nous attendons un gouvernement parfait pour faire ce qui est juste, nous mourrons en attendant et notre chance de changer la société pour de bon sera gâchée comme cela est arrivé à beaucoup de ceux qui sont allés dans l'au-delà. Chaque fois qu'une opportunité se présente pour vous de faire quelque chose au sujet d'une situation, rappelez-vous toujours que quelle que soit votre décision, vous influenceriez quelqu'un, quelque part de manière positive ou négative, que vous soyez un leader ou un citoyen. the vicious cycle of greed and corruption, it is because the corrupt leader who
is helped to perpetuate their evil by corrupt citizens will in turn help them
into power to cover up for them when their tenure is completed. Citizens are
always looking for leaders to blame in order to abdicate their own
responsibilities. When you make a selfish decision to dump refuse in your
neighbor’s yard and your neighbor is unhappy, the environment is degraded; you
blame it on your government who did not provide a proper disposal unit. This is
true in some cases and I am not trying to down play the role of this kind of
irresponsibility, but rather than annoy and endanger your neighbor, why don’t
think of an alternative that will benefit everyone. Why should you allow the
misbehavior of another make you do evil if you had not been looking for an
excuse to express your own evil. When you refuse to do what is right you will
do what is wrong because there is no vacuum in life. When you do not have the
required papers, you open the doors for corrupt officers to demand a bribe.
Whenever you choose to break the law because you feel everyone is doing same,
you aid and abet corrupt behavior. Your choices make you are as guilty as the
leader in position who demands the bribe. When we play our part it can be
really frustrating, no doubt but, the more you stay on track the easier it
becomes for you to enforce change even though it usually seems as if you are
kicking against rocks. If nothing else, you will always have that satisfaction
that you try your best and do what you have the power to do. With more citizens
choosing this route, we never know when but one day the rock will possibly give

Lorsque vous n'avez pas les papiers requis, vous ouvrez les portes à des agents corrompus pour exiger un pot-de-vin. Chaque fois que vous choisissez d'enfreindre la loi parce que vous sentez que tout le monde fait de même, vous aidez et encouragez un comportement corrompu. Vos choix font que vous êtes aussi coupable que le leader en position qui réclame le pot-de-vin. Lorsque nous jouons notre rôle, cela peut être vraiment frustrant, sans aucun doute, mais plus vous restez sur la bonne voie, plus il vous est facile d'appliquer le changement même si vous avez généralement l'impression de frapper contre des rochers. Si rien d'autre, vous aurez toujours cette satisfaction de faire de votre mieux et de faire ce que vous avez le pouvoir de faire. of everyone is regarded in high esteem. It is however, worthy of note that this
progress which is largely based on good leadership is a direct reflection of
the citizens because good leaders are products of their societies that are made
of good citizens. Citizens are as guilty as leaders when it comes to how a
society is run because although the leaders are supposed to put structure in
place for society to run smoothly, it takes the cooperation of law abiding
citizens to make things work. We live in societies especially, in Africa, where
all we do is complain about what leadership is not doing when we do not raise a
finger to do what we as citizens can do to enable the system work. The game of
corruption has two major players; the greedy leader and the equally greedy
citizen who is the accomplice. When leadership can recruit as many accomplices
as possible, corruption finds a very fertile soil to thrive. Some will say it
is poverty that makes them accomplices, but there are others who poverty has
driven to stand against this ill in order to establish long lasting changes for
the good of all. Citizens who cooperate with leadership to bring hardship on
others are just like the leaders; selfish, greedy and myopic. When leadership
fails, it is a huge problem but when citizens do nothing to either hold leaders
accountable or do the little bit they can to make their own contributions,
growth is stunted and lives as well as opportunities are wasted. Every society
needs a responsive and active citizenry to thrive. Do have a very pleasant day!

pays a lot of attention to human capital development. People should be trained
and positioned to assume responsibilities and be builders of societies. We do
not live for ourselves alone, we live as individuals that are interconnected in
such a way that life is not fully enjoyed until others are a part of the life
that we are living. There should not be such a distinction between the citizens
and those in leadership that it seems like only those who are in leadership are
responsible for building society therefore, all attention should be focused on
them. A lot has been said and taught about leadership but there is an apparent
silence on citizenship which makes me wonder if the citizens have nothing to do
in the development of the society. Citizens make up over 90% of the society and
I believe that their impact on its growth and development must be very
important. Where do the leaders emerge from? Is it possible for a bad citizen
to become a good leader? Why are citizens being treated as sacred cows when it
comes to discussions on the development of societies? The role of the citizens
is also as important as that of leaders, so we must pay adequate attention to
the proper education of citizens because the leaders are a reflection of the citizenry
of any nation. Consequently, each time we point fingers at our leaders, we are
actually pointing at ourselves. If equal attention is given to the development
of responsible citizens, we would have less to do when they come to the
position of leadership. Individual development of the citizenry is what is
needed for robust and wholesome development of any given society. Do have a
