If we are not careful, we can
begin to think that most Africans would rather take the easy way out because of
all that goes on around us. When challenges of inadequate infrastructure and
bad governance confront most professionals, they give up. They usually either
leave the country or they give up any attempt at research that can make them to
make do with what they have. These are very frustrating options for a lot of
Africans. Whatever their choice, most are not happy with the final choice
because we should not be forced into choices that are forced on us by avoidable
sufferings. These are very genuine challenges where the government does nothing
to help individuals, especially professionals, to enable them live out their
lives by maximizing their potentials. The most disturbing part is that it looks
like we have reached a point where we no longer care, so we would rather just
do our thing rather than attempt to become a solution. How much can one do in
the midst of all the foolishness and selfishness going on in most of our
governments? "Doing your thing" will not get us anywhere, difficult
as it may seem, we would have to make up our minds to do "our thing"
whenever the occasion presents itself. Many have taken steps, even in this
atmosphere often filled with hopelessness, which brought help and hope to
others that have led these ones to reach out to others themselves. At times,
that is all we need, someone to help us see hope where there is none. Someone that
can be so resourceful that those around them are encouraged to be resourceful
with the little they have. You never know the inventions that can come out of
those whose will to live and survive the harsh conditions have led them into paths
of creativity they never imagined possible. There is always something small
that you can do to give someone else some hope. When we look away from our
needs to the needs of others that we are in a position to do something about,
there is something that changes the way we view life. We can point to unsung
heroes who have used limited resources as well as the fluid international
research borders to improve situations in the healthcare, education, enterprise
and other domains. Do not look for the easy way out, think of how you can use
the limited resources, the information and cooperation available to break new
frontiers in spite of the prevalent apathy in the continent. Do have a
wonderful day!AFRICA IS A CONTINENT ON THE MOVE AND HER YOUTHS ARE HER GREATEST RESOURCE."We cannot always build a future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future."Franklin D.
