AFRICA IS A CONTINENT ON THE MOVE AND HER YOUTHS ARE HER GREATEST RESOURCE."We cannot always build a future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future."Franklin D. Roosevelt. MentorAfrica looks to help youths, through various life transition mentoring topics, to prepare youths for development and leadership that will help them change the African narrative whenever the opportunity arises.

DOES YOUR LEADERSHIP PERMIT GROWTH? - VOTRE LEADERSHIP PERMET-IL LA CROISSANCE?
The
problem with leadership that does function in such a way that it brings out the
best in people is that it is egocentric. These are leaders whose only purpose
is to bear a title that can enable them actualise their selfish ambition. They have
no interest in serving anyone or improving anything, they just want to be revered.
“The boss is around” someone whispered. Everyone started scurrying around,
getting to their posts and keeping an appearance of “dedicated employees”. Why
would the appearance of a leader warrant such a situation? This scenario can be
an experience anywhere leadership is disconnected from those they are meant to
serve. There are some situations in which the leader is so “revered” that their
name is mentioned in whispers. In settings like these, there are snitches
everywhere created by this kind of leadership because that is the only way it
can thrive. People are promoted not by merit but by their foolish and
unflinching loyalty to the one at the helm of affairs. A leader who wants
growth and progress for the people does not instill fear. No leader should be
driven by power, rather they should use their authority to galvanize the people
in such a way that they become invaluable assets. When things only progress
when you are present then as a leader you should check yourself. When people
are quiet in meetings and allow you alone to speak and speak only when you
coarse them to, you are not a leader. A leader should empower others, this is
the only time there will be progress and development. When fear is the general
atmosphere in which people operate, growth is stunted. This kind of leadership
is prevalent in developing societies were people are constantly in a survival
mode, so the dog eat dog scenario is very apparent. Progress is slow or almost
nonexistent because people are not encouraged to express their ingenuity and
creative so that they can grow and blossom because they constantly have to
blindly toe the line of leadership. A leader empowers people to learn, become
better and contribute to growth and success. People do not become better and
more productive just by training, they become better in an environment that
allows them to dream and create. This can only be done in an atmosphere of
freedom of expression. An ambiance is created that allows people’s imagination
to be stretched beyond their limits. Oppressive regimes create an atmosphere of
fear and this permeates every sphere of that society. When freedom of
self-expression is absent, many will arrive at the end of their lives never
really putting to use all that would have enabled them to contribute their
quota to human existence. Wherever you find yourself as a leader, go all out to
make the environment conducive for personal and the collective growth of all
under your leadership. Leadership that places the growth and welfare of people
before all else will soon see a garden full of beautiful flowers giving off
great scent to the envy of others. Do enjoy a fantastic weekend! Let’s continue

THE POWER AND PULL OF BRANDING - LE POUVOIR ET LA TRACTION DE LA MARQUE
“The person who says it cannot be
done should not interrupt the person doing it” – Chinese proverb.
We all have our opinion on issues and we are
free to express them. There is no subject matter that is totally accepted by
everybody even in the face of a vigorous attempt to indoctrinate people. What we
can do is project our point of view with images that can help others understand
us better and appreciate where we are coming from and where are headed. They may
not necessarily agree with us but at least we give them a chance to see what we
see by the kind of images we project. Africa is always represented as a
continent of doom and gloom and anyone that says something positive about it is
seen as being presumptuous. The immediate response of many, including Africans,
is to portray Africa in some bad or miserable light. No matter the beauty they
find, they would rather collect images of hunger and poverty. No one is going
to help you sell what you have, life has become about branding and the one that
does it better wins more people to their brand even if some might be disappointed
in the end. Images are now so powerful that many of us make up our minds about
people and things before we come into physical contact with them. There are
movies and other works winning awards these days not because of their
brilliance but because of their brilliant agents and powerful advertising. The
power of visual projection is so strong that you cannot blame those who
undermine Africa and Africans. Is that to say that we do not have humongous
leadership and developmental problems? Of course not! Denying that will be
absolute delusion but that does not mean that I will undermine the hard work of
those who are doing beautiful things to move the continent forward. When we
focus on what is progressive and beautiful, we pull minds in the right
direction to begin to look for ways to build on ideas that can produce the kind
of leadership and development this continent badly needs. No matter what anyone
thinks, I believe Africa has a future and it is up to us Africans to do our
best with what we have to produce the future we would like to see. For those
who cannot see beyond the corruption, bad leadership and problems of
underdevelopment, don’t interrupt our dream of a prosperous Africa because it
will come to fruition. We will keep thinking, discussing and making room for
improvement rather than giving up and sitting down to watch things totally fall
apart. The difference between success and failure is perception, great things
happen when people with the right perspective refuse to give up. Do have a
wonderful day! Let’s continue these conversations on Facebook/justinakesagbosa,

LIVE YOUR LIFE OUT LOUD, YOU HAVE JUST ONE.- VIVEZ VOTRE VIE À FORT, VOUS EN AVEZ QU'UNE.
Do you ever feel as if you are
drowning in an ocean of voices? These days everyone has an avenue to air their
opinion and voices are everywhere, dissenting, in agreement, angry, happy, criticizing,
applauding… it is just an array of noises. We are living this reality right now
and there is little or nothing many of us can really do about what is most
times an unpleasant situation. This is an era where there is so much noise and
so many activities that we can feel totally obscured if we don't live out loud.
This does not mean that you should go about seeking attention and making a nuisance
of yourself. What it means is that you have to be bold about who you are and
what you can contribute to make your life count. You have to be strong enough
as a person and sure enough of who you are and what you can give to be able to
live above the drowning noises of this age. Many are hiding because they are
intimidated by the "great" achievements of others. What they fail to
understand is that we are not all wired to do the same thing and affect people
in the same way. No contribution is too insignificant to be made by you and
enjoyed by those for whom it is destined. Every dot is important if society is
to function maximally. The societies that are more advanced still need some
categories of workers to take care of menial jobs that highly skilled people
will not touch with a pole. These workers are an integral part of the
development of that society. Whatever your contribution is, be your best at it.
Whatever society in which you find yourself there is a need for what you have got.
Don't let what others are doing keep you from loving what you do and giving it
your all. Live out loud! Don't allow anything or anyone to dull your shine.
Whether you are surrounded by limitations or not, express your life and let it
speak volumes and help others to enjoy theirs also. You have one life to live,
make it count. Do have a great day. Follow me on Facebook@justinaKes-Agbosa,
