AFRICA IS A CONTINENT ON THE MOVE AND HER YOUTHS ARE HER GREATEST RESOURCE."We cannot always build a future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future."Franklin D. Roosevelt. MentorAfrica looks to help youths, through various life transition mentoring topics, to prepare youths for development and leadership that will help them change the African narrative whenever the opportunity arises.

SUCCESS TURNS A DISADVANTAGE TO AN ADVANTAGE. - LE SUCCÈS TRANSFORME UN INCONVÉNIENT EN UN AVANTAGE.

The most difficult thing to do is
to take responsibility for failure. Only those who are tough and sincere enough
to take this responsibility will go on and succeed at whatever they put their
minds to do. The strong take note and move on while the weak build a tent
around their failure and look for who to blame. It is said that when life gives
you lemons, you should make a lemonade out of them, but that is only for
progressive people who want to make the most out of life. Weak people who have
no vision, who just want to drift through life, will look for a thousand ways
to blame someone or something for the lemons that have been thrown at them. I
have always said that if you are looking for excuses, you will find millions
irrespective of where you are located on this earth. There is no human being on
earth without some form of deficit, in fact most people have their
disadvantages outweighing their advantages. Weak people with a surplus will
even see their strength as an obstacle to facing life's challenges. No matter
what side of the divide you place a weak person, they will end up playing the
blame game. Those who are driven by a passion to make a difference and make
this world a better place will take note of the deficit and think of ways of
making a surplus out of it. They move on from that situation even when they
have every reason to blame and look for ways of turning it around for the good
of everyone. You cannot be strong and purpose driven if you are continuously
looking for who or what to blame. It is even more pathetic if it is the leader
who is playing the blame game; it is nauseating. Do not build a tent on a
deficit unless you intend to waste your life, look at what you can do to change
the status quo and go to work. The story of successful people is majorly built
around taking a deficit and making a surplus out of it. There is nothing new
under the sun, what you are complaining about is what brought someone else to
limelight. If you can change the way you look at it, you can do something with
what you hitherto considered a disadvantage. Enjoy your day!

YOUR EITHER MOAN OR YOU CROWN - SOIT VOUS LAMENTEZ OU VOUS COURONNEZ
 There
are people who will always find something to moan about no matter how bright
the situation may look to others. No matter how beautiful the painting is, they
would see a little stroke of the brush that was out of place. I used to think
that it was just people living in the developing world, under extreme poverty
that had this attitude because they are almost always frustrated and tend to
snap at every little irritation. I have since discovered that this is not
necessarily the case, there are people who always see what is wrong in any
given situation no matter what they society they live in. When I see people in
developed societies moaning about things that are considered miracles in
poverty stricken communities, I marvel. Moaning is different from rationalising
a situation and looking at what can be done to improve it, moaning comes from
looking at things from a victim's mentality. Some people always think they have
the short end of the stick no matter what you give to them. No matter how blue
the sky is, those who like to moan will search out a little cloud and focus on
it to the point that they imagine a heavy down pour. Those who love to moan
just suck the life out of everything, rather than fan the little flame to
become a huge fire, they will douse it with their depressing attitude and
quench whatever flame there is. Everyone has the ability to think like a victim
or a victor, whichever one you feed will grow to control your life.  What you magnify changes everything; if you
magnify what is available, it will grow. On the other hand, if you magnify what
is deficient, even what is available will lose its significance and no one will
benefit from your existence. You either empower yourself and others by your
victor mentality or you deflate yourself and everyone around you by your victim
mentality. The only way forward is to always intentionally train yourself to
see value in everything or every situation. There is some good in everything if
we decide to look for it. You can only find what you are searching for. What you
overlook is someone else’s stepping stone, it all depends on your perspective. Life
is a choice and a decision, you either moan or you crown. The choice is yours. Do
have a great weekend!

AGENTS OF CHANGE ARE NOT MAGICIANS. - LES AGENTS DE CHANGEMENT NE SONT PAS DES MAGICIENS.
There is no painless growth. If the
cells and organs in our bodies could talk, they would probably express they
pain they feel as they stretch and grow. Those who try to keep fit can
understand this as they experience pain during workouts. Nothing good comes easy.
If you want to be in constant comfort, forget about growth. Unfortunately,
remaining in constant comfort is not possible either because everything not in
use depreciates. Whether we like it or not we must face life and face it
squarely. Life demands that only through unpleasant circumstances can we enjoy
its pleasures. When we are confronted by unpleasant situations, most of us
especially in Africa, always have excuses why we cannot do anything about them
and most of these are genuine. However, like I have often said from my own
experience, we will die regretting if we wait for the right conditions for us
to do whatever we can to make the situation better, even if it is just to make
it slightly better. Unpleasant circumstances should be allowed to do what they
are meant to do; bring out the best in us. There should be no feeling as good
as putting in your best to make someone or something better even if your
contribution does not completely accomplish the desired change. No effort is
wasted, if the change does not occur physically, your actions might help to, at
least, change people’s perspective which is inevitable for change to occur.
Being an agent of change does not make you a magician, it just means that you
can add value to situations in a way that can make the crooked paths become
totally or partially straight. Many think that if you cannot effect immediate
and complete change, you should not bother. The good news is that no one living
under the sun has the power to effect that kind of change. The most important
thing in life is to always live with the perspective that you have the ability
to add value to anyone or any situation at any given time irrespective of our
ever present human limitations. With that kind of attitude, you will always
find opportunities where others are seeing only excuses. You do not have to
wait for someone to play their part before you do something that you can about
an issue. You just do what you can and you will always look back no matter how
it turns out and say "at least ...I tried". This the only way to
avoid the regrets of "I should have", "I could have" and
"I would have" Enjoy a great day!
