If we observe properly, we will notice people trying to fit into their environment so that they can be accepted and in so doing, they lower their expectations to align with whatsoever is acceptable to the majority. Our environment has a way of sucking us in. As an African, this is a very familiar terrain because we have set ceilings for ourselves because we believe that being from a developing environment, anything will be accepted therefore we are satisfied with putting in a little because we know no one would really take notice. We live in an environment where mediocrity is celebrated by most because coming out to do anything at all is a great achievement in an environment where people are usually waiting for others to do everything for them. Most of us want to live like the chameleon and blend with our environment, we fail to realise that we too can set parameters by which people around us live. If every one of us lived by excellent standards that we set for ourselves, we would have fewer people trying to drag others down by their inability to perform and their hatred for those who are performing. Do not lower your standards so that your environment can accommodate you rather, set your standards in excellence in order to provoke your environment to catch up with you. Fear of being attacked has left a lot of people performing below their standard because they blend in when they should stand out to be an encouragement to those who want to excel. Do not drop your standard for any reason because the same society or whatever environment you are trying to please will be the first to castigate you if your excellent skills are ever revealed at some point. You do yourself and all those under your influence a lot of good when you do everything with excellence because at the end of the day, your excellence sets out to create a culture that will be beneficial to many. Do have a lovely day!
AFRICA IS A CONTINENT ON THE MOVE AND HER YOUTHS ARE HER GREATEST RESOURCE."We cannot always build a future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future."Franklin D. Roosevelt. MentorAfrica looks to help youths, through various life transition mentoring topics, to prepare youths for development and leadership that will help them change the African narrative whenever the opportunity arises.
