AFRICA IS A CONTINENT ON THE MOVE AND HER YOUTHS ARE HER GREATEST RESOURCE."We cannot always build a future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future."Franklin D. Roosevelt. MentorAfrica looks to help youths, through various life transition mentoring topics, to prepare youths for development and leadership that will help them change the African narrative whenever the opportunity arises.

ALWAYS TELL YOURSELF THE TRUTH! - VOUS VOUS DITES TOUJOURS LA VÉRITÉ!
No one can help you measure your
life and your progress except yourself. What others see is just what you want them
to see no matter how close they are to you. Nobody knows you better than you
know yourself unless you have joined the ever growing numbers of those who
prefer to lie even to themselves about themselves. The importance of always
telling yourself the truth is that you are constantly in a position to make the
necessary adjustments needed as you journey through life. If you refuse to
change the needful, you will not make a success of your life. Is your life on
autopilot? Are you just going through the motions? These are questions we need
to confront and sincerely address in order to maximize our experiences. There
are times when life seems on autopilot, when all you can do is go through the
motions until your move to the next level happens. What can we do during those
times so that we are able handle what the next level of life offers us? This is
an important period for those who know how to utilize it. This is the period
where you can consider your options and decide on what changes to make or the
next best route to take. If you allow things get into mind, they will paralyse
you. Rather than take stock, confront the issues and overcome, many become
discouraged and lose hope believing that life has nothing more to offer them.
They stop dreaming and start accepting whatever life brings across their way. They
put themselves on autopilot and do nothing to try to navigate the vicissitudes
of life. Life is in stages. You cannot allow life to put you on autopilot
permanently, the ability to take the reins and navigate life when the weather
changes is what guarantees success. When you get to a point where your answers to
questions become "but what can I do about this?" you know life has
put you on autopilot. There must be something you can do about any given
situation if you put your mind to it. If we decide not to give up, we will be
in a better position to see options that we hitherto considered unlikely that
we will help us overcome periods of seeming stagnation. Decide to keep moving
and you will discover that no situation in life can put you on autopilot for
long. Situations can slow you down or make you change directions but they
should not be allowed to halt you or stop you totally. You have the reins, you
are in control, don’t ever forget that. Enjoy your weekend!

AFRICA'S DEVELOPMENT. THE GIRL-CHILD. POPULATION EXPLOSION. - DÉVELOPPEMENT DE L'AFRIQUE. LA FILLE. EXPLOSION DÉMOGRAPHIQUE.
It is funny how something that
you think you are really not interested in can become something that keeps you
awake at night. I have never really looked at the girl-child issue as “my
thing” until something that has been nudging me actually stole my sleep last
night. It has finally dawned on me that without paying adequate attention to
the development of the girl-child, Africa will not win the war against
underdevelopment. In recent times, Africa’s mounting demography and its
attendant challenges have been in the spotlight. In ancient Africa, having a
large number of children was not a problem; they were the workforce and
military might of their communities. Responsibilities were understood and
parents as well as elders undertook the job of raising their children with all
the diligence that was required. A growing population was never an issue at
that time, everyone understood their roles. What has changed is that society
has evolved from having a communal workforce and most parents have abdicated
their responsibilities. As if that was not enough damage, babies are now giving
birth to babies that are raised solely by these babies. How bad can this get?
An alarming percentage of teenage girls, especially in the rural areas, are
single mothers with no care even from their immediate families. We now have
growing number of grandmothers in their thirties. This vicious cycle has to be
addressed if Africa has any intention of making a headway. Illiterate, underage
and confused mothers and children, spell disaster for this continent. The real
problem is not the number of births, it is those having these babies and the
circumstances in which they are raising them that are monsters threatening the
very existence of this continent. Until women stop seeing themselves only as
sex objects and “baby mamas”, we are in big trouble. Even if you empower people
economically and academically who have no value for themselves, you only help
them have acquire better capacity to be foolish- whatever that means... We need
to sit up and do something about helping the girl-child understand her value
and place in nation building. Until she understands her importance and her
place, we are going to keep debating population explosion until we lose all
sense of what the real issue is without accomplishing anything to help find a
solution to the problem. Do have a great day!
Wednesday, 15 January 2020

OVERCOME THE OBSTACLES, DON'T LOOK FOR SHORTCUTS. - SURMONTEZ LES OBSTACLES, NE CHERCHEZ PAS DE RACCOURCI.
It is disturbing to see how
people are doing everything these days to be in the limelight. We are in an era
where, for most, the mantra is ‘the end justifies the means’. It is more
apparent for those of us who work with youths because they are constantly in a
hurry and they do not understand the idea of a ‘slow cook brings out the best
juices and the best taste’. There is a popular saying that "there are many
ways to kill a rat" but I would like to ask a question "Are all the
ways legitimate?" When you confront people who want to get to their
destination by hook or by crook, they will use this saying to support their
actions. With all the hype about success that has swamped society in our day,
people would do anything to be counted among the successful. Many simply refuse
to understand that the journey of success is a better example of the
accomplishment than what is generally seen or accepted as success. It is actually
the facing and overcoming of the obstacles that try to stop us from achieving
our goals that brings about the character and principled development that we
need to make the difference that humanity needs. Those who are willing to make
a difference will not take a shortcut, they will either reroute, change or
adjust their strategies. Many who take the shortcut would look for ways to
bypass the "stress" of the journey and arrive at the end by questionable
or even fraudulent means. They will post fake photos, videos and information, bribe
authorities, falsify information, eliminate opponents and do unprintable things
just to avoid obstacles. These people get to their destination and they become
a nuisance to society. Obstacles are inevitable in life. Rather than look for
shortcuts that would destroy your future, when you confront a challenge,
sharpen your creativity by looking for other ways to redirect your path. What
you learn in the process is what you will use to impact people. Nobody is
significantly helped and developed by the fruit of your success, what they
learn from is what it took to get those fruits. What the fruit of your success
does is give you a platform to reach others, it is the lessons from your
journey that leave the kind of lasting impact that can help those you come in
contact with to have a smoother and better journey. Do have a pleasant day!
Tuesday, 14 January 2020
