AFRICA IS A CONTINENT ON THE MOVE AND HER YOUTHS ARE HER GREATEST RESOURCE."We cannot always build a future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future."Franklin D. Roosevelt. MentorAfrica looks to help youths, through various life transition mentoring topics, to prepare youths for development and leadership that will help them change the African narrative whenever the opportunity arises.

DON'T LET IT BURST YOUR BUBBLE - NE PAS LE LAISSER ÉCLATER VOTRE BULLE
I do not consider myself a fitness freak, I am just someone who loves to tow the healthy path of life. It is also in my nature to give everything I am interested in, my best shot. I might not always do it with excellence but I try to give it all I have got. There are standards and expectations that life expects us to meet at every turn and I know that many are discouraged when they fall short. I got on a scale recently and what I saw was not commensurate with all my efforts. It was a little disappointing. After a while though, I just told myself that I was not going to allow that to burst my bubble, I will just keep going and enjoying my journey. I was talking with a group of women yesterday and one of them asked a question that I did not expect from her at all because she was someone that was making strides that I was proud of. Especially in these days of social media, many compare themselves with others and they become discouraged. When you do do not meet "expected" standards and you know you are doing your best, do not let it get you down. Continue putting in your best, the first person you should impress is yourself. That does not mean that you allow yourself get away with mediocrity, but when you are pushing yourself hard and you do not seem to be getting the expected results, do not be discouraged and stop or stop doing your life with excellence. Life happens and only those who will not allow anything to burst their bubble, will live their life to its full potential. Have a great week!

TORNADOES AND TERMITES. - LES TORNADES ET LES TERMITES
I heard something I find quite interesting "Tornadoes and hurricanes get more news coverage, but in reality, termites do more damage." The things that are most talked about are not the ones stopping people from accomplishing their dreams or leaving the kind of impact that will make their lives an example for others. I was telling a group of youths recently that I personally would never want to study the life of those who have "successful" lives in public but are bankrupt in their private lives. There are things that can make accomplishments distasteful. We live in a world these days that is so superficial that the very fabric of society is being gradually eroded because the end now justifies the means. Trade wars, nuclear power, political tussle and the likes are taking up all the headlines while racial, gender and social profiling are growing at an alarming rate. These "termites" are destroying more lives than what we consider the main issues. There are issues that should not only wait for governments and legislation but could be tackled as individuals take responsibility of what goes on around them. We don't need positions to make a difference, we just need to be sensitive to the needs around us and empathetic enough to see what we can do to stem the tide of the decay. If we make up our minds to be solutions, we can begin to change the unpleasant situations around us one action at a time. Have a great week!

REEL IT IN! - ENROULEZ-LE!
I sometimes watch fishermen either the ones who are in canoes with their nets or the ones with the fishing rod. Both categories strike me as very patient people. They spend time mostly in solitude trying to catch fish either for pleasure of home consumption or for business. What I admire the most is when they reel in their catch or when they pull in the net. Many times the reward is not commensurate with the hours and efforts spent but that doesn't deter from continuing until they get a good harvest. No matter how tired they get, they will reel in whatever they have caught and put away carefully before they continue. They will only throw it back into the water if of no nutritional or economic value. Many of us don't want to reel it in not because of no benefit but because it is not the kind of catch we expect. Life does not give us our expectations all at the same time, we need to learn to reel in whatever we get immediately we can feel it a the end of the rod. Our attitude should be like the fishermen see it first before you decide what to do. Some people lose their catch and go home empty handed because it is not what they envisioned and not because it has no value. Learn to celebrate each step you take towards your destination, that is what keeps you motivated, energised and driven until you get to the finish line. No matter what you get, reel it in. If it is not important for your journey throw it back and learn from the experience. If it can help you in any way, appreciate it, store it away and put back your rod for another catch. Success is a catalogue of little victories throughout life. Enjoy your day!
