AFRICA IS A CONTINENT ON THE MOVE AND HER YOUTHS ARE HER GREATEST RESOURCE."We cannot always build a future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future."Franklin D. Roosevelt. MentorAfrica looks to help youths, through various life transition mentoring topics, to prepare youths for development and leadership that will help them change the African narrative whenever the opportunity arises.

ONE MORE STEP - UN PAS DE PLUS
It is with great joy that people all over the world
celebrate Nelson Mandela’s life howbeit with a huge sense of sadness at his passage.
He was a man many looked to for inspiration and whose legacy many will continue
to look onto for inspiration. He wasn't super human but he had a vision and was
passionate and courageous enough to accomplish his dream. He had a dream that
was far bigger than him and he was ready to pay the ultimate price for the
freedom of his people and all those oppressed around the world. There are a lot
of people with dreams who are not willing to pay the price to accomplish them
either because they do not understand the full weight or their vision, they are
too self-centered or they are faint-hearted. The saddest of it all is those who
give up a few steps to their accomplishment. I heard someone say recently that
we must not drown in shallow waters; a lot of people lose the battle after
weathering the storm of deep waters. What would have happened if Nelson Mandela
compromised and gave up the fight half way through his prison sentence? Only those
who finish the race are rewarded, do not give up, all you need is the next
step; one at a time no matter how tired you are. The very next might be the one
that brings you to the finish line.

HOW DO YOU SEE OTHERS? - COMMENT VOYEZ-VOUS DES AUTRES?
The
way we see others is critical to how we relate in society and understand what
we can contribute. Many people see others through their own lenses; they
believe that everyone should see the world from their own view point. When we
have this kind of perspective we become frustrated when those we relate with do
not agree with us every step of the way. Even when the vision is yours, every
other partner in the fulfillment of the dream cannot and should not see it from
your perspective, if this is the case the full extent of the vision will not be
realized. When you allow those around you to have their own point of view that
may be totally different from yours it helps them to fully express themselves
and contribute what is best for the interest of everyone. Some people are so
myopic that they disagree with anyone who does not see the world the way they
see it. You may not like or understand peoples' points of view, it is always
better to allow yourself understand issues from the perspective of others as
this might help you understand and even better interpret situations around you.
The picture is too big for everyone to see it from your angle alone. You maybe surprised
at how someone you may consider very dull can see a little detail that you in all
your intelligence and wisdom may have overlooked.

ANTAGONISM - ANTAGONISME
We cannot all move at the same pace but we can move at our pace and make the best of every opportunity that presents itself. The mistake people make is that they want to move at other people's pace and when they fail to do that they become antagonistic or discouraged. That is why the less developed are looking for ways to talk down on the achievements of those who have done better them or they look for mistakes these ones have made and blow them out of proportion. What should concern us is how we can move from point A to point B and do it with excellence irrespective of what others have accomplished. This way we are not intimidated and we continue to excel at what we are doing and celebrate the little successes we have accomplished. On the other hand, those of us who have gone much farther in our achievements should look for ways to help build up the upcoming ones especially when these ones have been a part of our success story directly or indirectly. Many of us become antagonistic towards those who are rising up because we do not want to deal with any competition , so we start conscious or unconsciously trying to throw spanners in their wheels. Which ever end of the divide you find yourselves, you must maintain an attitude that will help those around you achieve their own dreams.
