Death has a way of reminding us that we have just one life to live and make all the contributions we can. A week ago, someone I knew died suddenly and that was not the first time someone I knew has died. However, this time around, it got me thinking about what we leave behind when we die. That little hyphen between the date of birth and the date of death is the record of the contributions we made in life. Have you ever stopped to think of what that record will do for others that are left behind? Would it help them approach life better and make it more successful and more productive? Did your contributions change the landscape around you? When you look at some lives, it looks like all they did was scribble, no clear story, no lessons for anyone to use. It is sad to waste a whole lifetime without any concrete evidence that you passed through this world except for passing time and acquiring things. SAD! In most of Africa, where many are just struggling to survive each day, it can be daunting task to write your story in history but it is not an impossibility if you recognise the fact that many beautiful stories come out of the struggles of life. Writing a story that changes the way people look at life which helps them to make a success of theirs, does not take wealth, it takes living with intention. When you see life beyond everyday existence to living with the intention to advance human living in any small way you can,you will make decisions that make you take steps with purpose. That is what writing your story in history is all about, it does not have to be world history but it could be a story that changes the perspective of anyone in your sphere of influence and your immediate community. It is never too late to start living with intention, some have done things that they will be remembered for and which would help others go further, faster in the last few years of their lives. Decide to start writing a story from where you are right now so that at the end of your life, it won't look like all you left behind were things you scribbled that cannot help anyone approach life in a more purposeful way. Have a great weekend!
AFRICA IS A CONTINENT ON THE MOVE AND HER YOUTHS ARE HER GREATEST RESOURCE."We cannot always build a future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future."Franklin D. Roosevelt. MentorAfrica looks to help youths, through various life transition mentoring topics, to prepare youths for development and leadership that will help them change the African narrative whenever the opportunity arises.
