LEADERSHIP TRAITS 4 - LES TRAITS DE LEADERSHIP 4

People without integrity cannot be good leaders. Leaders do not manipulate, they present their followers with the reality and allow them to make their own choices. When people don’t understand leadership and they feel deceived or left out, they will not cooperate; they will have to be forced or coerced. Either way, this will lead to lack of trust and the group will stagnate or disintegrate. The best thing a leader can do is to be open and honest with those he/she is leading, when they are in the true picture, they will trust their leaders and  they will stand together with them even in very tough times. Facing realities and making the others understand things the way they are is not a sign of weakness, it is rather a sign of strength. What happens most of the time is that leadership disconnects from those they are leading. This brings about an atmosphere of distrust which is the worst thing to happen to any group. When people feel abandoned or sidelined by leadership, they begin to operate on their own as they see fit. The sad thing is that before leadership gets its act together, if it ever does, the situation would have probably gone beyond fixing. Leaders must stay connected to their followers, listen to them and objectively handle matters in an honest way. There is no group too small or too big to work in this manner.
