There is no painless growth. If the
cells and organs in our bodies could talk, they would probably express they
pain they feel as they stretch and grow. Those who try to keep fit can
understand this as they experience pain during workouts. Nothing good comes easy.
If you want to be in constant comfort, forget about growth. Unfortunately,
remaining in constant comfort is not possible either because everything not in
use depreciates. Whether we like it or not we must face life and face it
squarely. Life demands that only through unpleasant circumstances can we enjoy
its pleasures. When we are confronted by unpleasant situations, most of us
especially in Africa, always have excuses why we cannot do anything about them
and most of these are genuine. However, like I have often said from my own
experience, we will die regretting if we wait for the right conditions for us
to do whatever we can to make the situation better, even if it is just to make
it slightly better. Unpleasant circumstances should be allowed to do what they
are meant to do; bring out the best in us. There should be no feeling as good
as putting in your best to make someone or something better even if your
contribution does not completely accomplish the desired change. No effort is
wasted, if the change does not occur physically, your actions might help to, at
least, change people’s perspective which is inevitable for change to occur.
Being an agent of change does not make you a magician, it just means that you
can add value to situations in a way that can make the crooked paths become
totally or partially straight. Many think that if you cannot effect immediate
and complete change, you should not bother. The good news is that no one living
under the sun has the power to effect that kind of change. The most important
thing in life is to always live with the perspective that you have the ability
to add value to anyone or any situation at any given time irrespective of our
ever present human limitations. With that kind of attitude, you will always
find opportunities where others are seeing only excuses. You do not have to
wait for someone to play their part before you do something that you can about
an issue. You just do what you can and you will always look back no matter how
it turns out and say "at least ...I tried". This the only way to
avoid the regrets of "I should have", "I could have" and

YOU WON'T BE REMEMBERED FOR YOUR KNOWLEDGE, YOU WILL BE REMEMBERED FOR YOUR IMPACT. - ON NE VA PAS VOUS RAPPELER POUR VOTRE CONNAISSANCE, ON VA VOUS RAPPELER POUR VOTRE IMPACT
There is more to life than acting
a role. Unfortunately, in this age of social media, we have more actors than
real people and the problem with that is many are not living, they are just
getting along. There is a disturbing trend that I have noticed, especially with
the youths, as I interact with people. What is largely a positive move is
showing some negative sides. With the amount of knowledge now available
everywhere on purpose and passion, there are more who are just echoing the
principles without practicing them. They dress the part and act the part but
they do not live the part. I do not know which is worse; ignorance or
uncultivated knowledge. What is the use of going for workshops and seminars,
reading books and watching training videos if you are not going to apply the
knowledge in productive way? Many youths inundate you with principles
immediately you start a conversation with them and there is no evidence that
those principles are helping them in anyway. The frustrating part is the fact
that it prevents them from listening and learning how to live those principles
by engaging in practical conversations to help them apply the principles so
that they can help them pursue their vision. What Africa needs is not youths
with heads loaded with information, it needs youths who are ready to find ways
of using what they know to position themselves as agents of change. The long
list of certificates and trainings you have attended do not mean a thing if you
cannot show practical ways of applying them to solve immediate problems in your
community. Great innovators and leaders are not remembered for the amount of
knowledge they acquired, they are remembered for the difference they made with
what they knew. Knowledge without commensurate performance is just an echo.
Stop echoing what others have said and starting doing something for people to
talk about. Learning is just a ladder to reach where you are going. Do not
stand on the ladder for people to see you, use it to arrive at the problem you
need to fix. Enjoy your day!
Tuesday, 4 February 2020

WITHOUT PURPOSE, QUITTING IS EASY. - SANS BUT, ABANDONNER C'EST FACILE.
There are times, and that happens
often, when the network is so bad that working on my blog post can take about
ten times the length of time needed. At times like these, it is very easy to
get discouraged, shut down and do something else that is less stressful and
less mentally tasking. The reason most of us quit is not because of the major
challenges we face but the little inconveniences that are endlessly ‘harassing’
us. It is like the continuous buzzing of mosquitoes that can deprive you of
your sleep and make you cranky throughout the rest of day. Malaria might be the
deadly result of mosquito bites, but the endless buzzing during the night can
be quite frustrating and make you lose your peace and productivity the next day
because of lack of sleep. However, for those who are determined to accomplish something
with their lives, something keeps them going and they hit the refresh button
over and over again until they get them system working even if it is at slow
speed. If we shift our emotions to ourselves and start feeling sorry for
ourselves, we will derail and the work will never get done. For example, in my
own case, what keeps me going is that I see my blog as a classroom and my
students may need a few tips from each lesson to go through something and I need
to be there for them. They might not all like the lesson but for the sake of
the few who would want to hear something I have to say, I have to turn up. What
some consider a nuisance is beneficial to others, so I have to keep going
irrespective of the numbers of the views, likes, comments or shares. Every vision is sustained by purpose; if you
do not understand the purpose, quitting is easy. No matter how hard it gets,
just hit the refresh button. No matter how many times distractions and failures
interrupt the “network”, keep hitting the refresh button. No matter how long it
takes to load, wait. Any vision worth its while is worth your commitment and
perseverance. You can change your methods but never change your goal if you are
convinced of the impact it will make in society. The climb is slow, tough and
long, but the view at the top is well worth it. Just keep going, keep your eyes
on the finish line not on the obstacles. The obstacles will always pale in
comparison to the ultimate goal. Keep moving… Do have a very pleasant day!
Monday, 3 February 2020

AFRICA: MATCHING WORDS WITH ACTION. - AFRIQUE: ASSOCIER LES MOTS À L'ACTION.
The world has designed a system
to categorize people into classes or more directly worlds. This classification
is based on a range of identifications, qualifications and possessions. The
countries categorized in the developed status are countries that have their
‘ducks in a row’ which simply means that they are constantly evolving beyond
what once was their best. For any society that wants to level-up, the first
point of contact is to identify strongly, what the community is. Who are its
members and what do you want to do next? To do this effectively, a population
count needs to be done to first identify the people of that area, the age
range, skills available and the natural resources tradable with external
communities. The next step is to refine the products to high standards of
quality, not necessarily international standards because those standards are
based upon group selections. The quality set by this group must be one that
allows their product or service look inviting for anyone who they are
advertising to or beckoning on for a trial. Presentation is the first contact
of refinement or development. People of this developing world must put a strong
emphasis on thought. I used to have a friend who was quite passionate about
military defense, strategy and amenities. He used to dream up and construct
models of tanks, armory and facilities to be used by soldiers during times of
war and preparation during times of peace. Although He is yet to achieve those
dreams, they are possible but only if He is willing to commit to that dream.
Dreams change, time changes and only those who are crazy enough to stand firm
during a strong wind of change will set the course for a new generation. This
is the same with development. Even though development is a constant flowing
river, it is one that is created by the most resilient of creatures and every
environment must identify these members of her community and ensure that they
have the tools they need so that while everyone is enjoying the latest
technology, they are still busy at the drawing board creating the new ones for
the future. Life and the technology it
takes to live and enjoy it, are a continuous process. No society that wants to
develop can afford to rest on its oars. We as Africans must keep our thinking
caps on constantly and continually empower and support those with new, bright
and smart ideas to create our future. Do have a great week!
