Everywhere I work with youths almost all of them say they want to make a difference. As I interact with people across board this seems to be the "desire" of many. However, this does not seem to be the case in practice from my observations. I am beginning to think that a lot of people associate making a difference with having an opportunity to be in the limelight. Are you ready to make a difference even if no one notices what you are doing? Are you ready to make a difference even if it is just in the life of a few people? I have noticed that immediately people discover that what you are presenting will not give them the main spot, they develop cold feet and I am left wondering whether it is really about making a difference or drawing attention to themselves. I honestly hope all this noise about social entrepreneurship and improving humanity is not just an opportunity for some to gain fame that they could not otherwise get from mainstream business. There are many definitions of success but I tend to lean towards the ones that link success to the satisfaction you get from making a difference in the lives of others even if no one notices. Too much is attached to extraneous measurements of success; how many likes, shares and followers you have on social media or how many items of luxury you own. You do not need the limelight to be successful, you just need to live a life that helps others to become better people. Enjoy yourself and your day!
AFRICA IS A CONTINENT ON THE MOVE AND HER YOUTHS ARE HER GREATEST RESOURCE."We cannot always build a future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future."Franklin D. Roosevelt. MentorAfrica looks to help youths, through various life transition mentoring topics, to prepare youths for development and leadership that will help them change the African narrative whenever the opportunity arises.
