Recently, I listened to a number of speakers in one day. I heard one for just
about five minutes and I got more from her than I did from the others whom I
listened to for a longer period of time. The difference is that she said
something in that brief moment that made me look at something I was already
familiar with in another light. Who are those picking your brain? For many,
this is a question that is difficult to answer because they are in circles
where no one motivates the other to see farther or go further. Everyone is
content with the way things are. No matter the amount of time they spend
together, no new idea is birth. Human life thrives on the challenges it can
overcome, when you always lay back and you are not excited about looking for
ways to overcome challenges around you, your brain lies fallow. We should try
to engage with people who help us to think of ways of improving our perspective to tackle challenges around us and make our societies better. When you are always around
people who are whining, complaining and looking for ways to anesthetize themselves from problems that could challenge them to do more with their lives and further develop their communities, you will exit life with all your potentials underutilized. What a shame that
would be. You do not have to be physically in the company of people who
can pick your brain, you can access many ideas through reading and other forms
of media engagement. Entertainment is overvalued in our present dispensation, that is why
many brains are lying fallow. Be intentional in the people or information you
allow into your life, if something does not challenge you mentally, it is not
worth your time. Even your emotions are improved by your mental strength. Life
is too short and your potentials are too valuable to be wasted in company of
people that add no value. Have a great weekend!
