Learning is a life-long obligation and I do not use the word “obligation” lightly. A lot of people think that learning ends at the end of formal education or learning is only necessary in areas of their specialization. There is so much to life than what the school system, formal or informal, can offer us. Mentors help us to fill in the gaps that our previous educational experience did not address. Mentoring is a hands-on experience training which is built on a relationship of trust between the mentor and the mentee. The mentor is there, stage by stage, to help the mentee acquire the appropriate knowledge they need to make the best of their potentials. Mentors deal with personal issues that could stand as obstacles to the development of the mentee to help them understand themselves better and get on with the business of fulfilling life’s purpose. Most of the time, mentors are those who have gone through a lot of challenging circumstances and have overcome they are therefore in a position to enable the mentee get to where they are going faster.
