FOMO is now becoming a
phenomenon, no one actually wants to miss out on anything anymore, these days. The
hunger for knowledge and information is now unprecedented. What we have to
realise is that it is not the amount of knowledge you have that matters, it is
the relevance of the knowledge to the improvement of human life that is
important. Some people are full of information that has no benefit for the
advancement of their lives or even that of the society at large. Some are even
so enmeshed in information so antiquated that it becomes an obstacle to their
modern living. There is a place for history because we have to know the reason
why we live the way we do today. That is as useful as history gets, when you
hold on to history as your only source of life, you become a misfit in present
society. For some, if things are not done according to the historical knowledge
they have, then it is not acceptable. The only way to remain relevant is to be
a continuous learner, but what you are learning has to be relevant to your
present growth and development. They say that the day you stop learning, you
start to die. The question is ‘how relevant is what you are learning to your
journey towards your destination?’ Anyone living in the present with the
intention of making any impact, has to constantly make use of the numerous
avenues that are available today to update their knowledge. Changes are
happening by the moments, not even by the day, we have to put ourselves in
positions to improve what we know as fast as we can. Certificates are fast losing
their value because immediately they satisfy the requirements for which they
were given, new knowledge is coming out from that field. Do not depend on just
what you achieved from your formal training, constantly try to acquire new
information about your vision as it becomes available to you so you can remain
relevant to society. Many who talk about FOMO are just afraid of missing out on
things in the pop culture and not the kind of knowledge that can be used as
leverage for personal development and the accomplishment of their vision. We must
be clear on what it is that we want and why we want it, then go for it. Do have
a great week!AFRICA IS A CONTINENT ON THE MOVE AND HER YOUTHS ARE HER GREATEST RESOURCE."We cannot always build a future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future."Franklin D.
