What do you think about when you hear the words “bottom line”?
From my observation these are words that are synonymous with money and by extension
a life of luxury, to a lot of people especially in the dog eat dog capitalist
setting. This is the reason why people would do anything to get a proper bottom
line even if it means selling their dreams to the highest bidder. People will
spend time, endure pain to accomplish a dream and sell it for money and the
luxury that it can provide. I am not in any way saying that others cannot buy
into your vision by investing in it, but when it comes to the point where you do
not care about what happens to your dream because the money is huge, then I will
rethink what your passion was in the first place; money or impact. This is
where we must establish our core values before we pursue our vision because in
the absence of well-intentioned and established core values, your vision and
your labour will be bought over. At the end of the day, all you will have left to your name and
the next generation will be how much wealth you had. However, there are those
whose bottom line is to make money in order to use it for charity, help to
sponsor those who are doing things to help humanity that they themselves are
not ready to get involved in. In this case, we can understand why money as
your bottom line. The point I am trying to make is that all our labor should
not be geared towards simply living a life of luxury if we ever want to leave
behind any kind of legacy. What you carry inside and can leave behind for the
benefit of humanity is bigger than the
size of yacht or private jet you can ever own.
