STOP AUDITIONING! - ARRETEZ D'AUDITIONNER!

I recently saw a movie where a guy was going from one audition to another trying to get a music contract and he met a girl in the process who was also looking for a way to get into the movie industry. They both tried very hard but nothing significant was forthcoming and it was at a very point that the girl told the guy to stop auditioning and start something himself. These were very talented people who put their lives on hold doing menial jobs around the entertainment industry just to get roles and fulfil their dreams. This is the situation with a lot of us, we are talented and hardworking but the opportunities a few and far between, that is if we ever even get them. Many youths find themselves going in circles until they eventually arrive at old age with nothing but their dreams. If we ever intend to make our story count, we have to stop auditioning for roles that are tailored by society and others. When opportunities do not open for you in the traditional way, passion for your dreams should help you create opportunities. Many give up and fit into the moulds that life creates for them and finish life wishing that they achieved their dreams. Do not allow your environment and other limitations put you on lock down, if your do not lose your steam, you will be able to see ways of creating opportunities where no one else is aware of them. In the same Africa where everything seems to be stagnated or retrogressing, those with a passion for her growth and development are finding ways to make things work. Until you see that the achievement of your dream is not tied to a geographical location or the approval of certain society or group of individuals, you will waste your talent and purpose auditioning when you could be making history. Enjoy your day!

J'ai récemment vu un film où un gars passait d'une audition à l'autre en essayant d'obtenir un contrat de musique et il a rencontré une fille pendant ce temps qui cherchait aussi un moyen d'entrer dans l'industrie du cinéma. Ils ont tous les deux essayé très fort mais rien d'important n'était en vue et c'est à un moment banal que la fille a dit au gars d'arrêter d'auditionner et de commencer quelque chose lui-même. C'étaient des gens très talentueux qui mettaient leur vie en attente en faisant des tâches subalternes dans l'industrie du divertissement juste pour obtenir des rôles et réaliser leurs rêves. C'est la situation avec beaucoup d'entre nous, nous sommes talentueux et nous travaillons dur, mais les opportunités sont rares, si nous les obtenons jamais. Beaucoup de jeunes se retrouvent à tourner en rond jusqu'à ce qu'ils finissent par arriver à la vieillesse avec rien d'autre que leurs rêves. Si nous avons l'intention de faire en sorte que notre histoire compte, nous devons cesser d'auditionner pour des rôles qui sont façonnés par la société et les autres. Lorsque les opportunités ne s'ouvrent pas pour vous de manière traditionnelle, la passion pour vos rêves devrait vous aider à créer des opportunités. Beaucoup abandonnent et s'inscrivent dans les moules que la vie crée pour eux et finissent la vie en souhaitant qu'ils auraient réalisé leurs rêves. Ne laissez pas votre environnement et d'autres limitations vous mettre en lock-down, si vous ne perdez pas votre souffle, vous serez en mesure de voir des moyens de créer des opportunités où personne d'autre n'en est au courant. Dans la même Afrique où tout semble stagner ou rétrograder, ceux qui sont passionnés par sa croissance et son développement trouvent des moyens de faire fonctionner les choses. Jusqu'à ce que vous voyiez que la réalisation de votre rêve n'est pas liée à une situation géographique ou à l'approbation d'une certaine société ou d'un groupe d'individus, vous gaspillerez votre talent et votre but en auditionnant quand vous pourriez faire l'histoire. ADD NEW FEATURES - AJOUTER DE NOUVELLES CARACTÉRISTIQUES

I was asking my children what they do in the remake of an old movie because I am not really interested in movies these days. What I understood from their explanation is that the remake helps to adapt the film to the present audience so it is relevant. They try to stick with the original story lines and settings as much as they can but the integrity of the content is respected. When I listen to most people talking about Africa, they usually are always describing the present landscape of underdevelopment and corruption or they are dwelling in her past glory. Very few people actually envision and talk about an Africa with an improved landscape. The few who do are castigated and mocked and the sad thing is the fact that this is done by Africans themselves. It is easier to do an exact image of the painting of a landscape than it is to attempt an improved and futuristic version because then we would have to put our imagination to work. Imagination helps us to conceive and pursue our dreams and desires, that is a place many Africans do not want to go. Most of us would rather just paint the past or previous landscapes like almost everyone does and enjoy all the excuses that absorb us of any responsibility. Getting into anything that would require the use of our minds and the discipline of engaging our time and hard work is off limits for many. It is high time we stopped painting the same landscapes over and over again, let us think of features that we can add to the landscape to make it more beautiful and better. Life has given us all blank canvases, we either make copies of what others have done, improve on the works of others by doing a remake or we do our own painting for others to enjoy and remake if they so desire.

Je demandais à mes enfants ce qu'on fait pour le remake d'un vieux film parce que je ne m'intéresse pas vraiment aux films ces jours-ci. Ce que j'ai compris de leur explication, c'est que le remake aide à adapter le film au public présent pour qu'il soit applicable. Ils essaient de s'en tenir aux lignes et aux scénarios d'origine autant qu'ils le peuvent, l'intégrité du contenu est respectée. Quand j'écoute la plupart des gens parle de l'Afrique, ils décrivent toujours le paysage actuel du sous-développement et de la corruption ou ils se situent dans sa gloire passée. Très peu de gens envisagent et parlent d'une Afrique avec un paysage amélioré. Les rares qui le font sont fustigés et moqués et le plus triste est le fait que cela est fait par les Africains eux-mêmes. Il est plus facile de faire une image exacte de la peinture d'un paysage que de tenter une version améliorée et futuriste parce que nous devrions alors mettre notre imagination au travail. L'imagination nous aide à concevoir et à poursuivre nos rêves et nos désirs, un endroit que beaucoup d'Africains ne veulent pas parcourir. La plupart d'entre nous préfèrent simplement peindre le passé ou les paysages précédents comme presque tout le monde et profiter de toutes les excuses qui nous absorbent de toute responsabilité. Entrer dans tout ce qui nécessiterait l'emploi de notre esprit et la discipline d'engager notre temps et notre dur travail est hors limites pour beaucoup. Il est grand temps que nous arrêtions de peindre les mêmes paysages à maintes reprises, pensons aux éléments que nous pouvons ajouter au paysage pour le rendre plus beau et meilleur. La vie nous a tous donné les toiles vierges, soit nous faisons des copies de ce que les autres ont fait, nous améliorons les œuvres des autres en faisant un remake ou nous faisons notre propre peinture pour que les autres en profitent et refassent s'ils le désirent.

EMBRACE DISCIPLINE...GROW! - EMBRASSEZ LA DISCIPLINE...GRANDISSEZ!

It is quite exciting to be back on the blog for 2018. 2017 was a great year for the blog but I know this year is going to be a much better one. This sounds cliché

 because everyone talks like this at the beginning of every year but the difference is that some prepare mentally for it while others just wish it. We must realise that we cannot have any growth if we do not embrace the discipline that is needed to move from one level to the other. People will come out with new year resolutions that they have no intentions to achieve because of the level of work and discipline required. I have seen people who would rather take drugs daily than dealing with a lifestyle change of diet and exercise. Many will choose to follow some religious rituals rather than work on areas of their lives that will help them move forward. The main thing that we need to do if we want to make any meaningful progress this year is to be open to change through our willingness to embrace the diligence that only discipline can produce. If we choose to look for shortcuts in life, we will end up as mediocres no matter the resolutions we make at the beginning of the year. Africa is on the move for those who want to make their story count. We at Mentor Africa wish you a happy new, we enjoin you embrace discipline and grow. Have a great year!

C'est très excitant d'être de retour sur le blog pour 2018. 2017 a été une bonne année pour le blog mais je sais que cette année serait mieux. Cela semble cliché parce que tout le monde parle comme ça au début de chaque année, mais la différence est que certains s'y préparent mentalement tandis que d'autres le souhaitent. Nous devons réaliser que nous ne pouvons pas avoir de croissance si nous n'embrassons pas la discipline nécessaire pour passer d'un niveau à l'autre. Les gens sortiront avec des résolutions du nouvel an qu'ils n'ont aucune intention d'atteindre en raison du niveau de travail et de discipline requis. J'ai vu des gens qui préféreraient prendre des médicaments tous les jours plutôt que de faire face à un changement de mode de vie et d'exercice. Beaucoup choisiront de suivre certains rituels religieux plutôt que de travailler sur des domaines de leur vie qui les aideront à faire du progrès. La principale chose que nous devons faire si nous voulons faire des progrès significatifs cette année est d'être ouvert au changement par notre volonté d'adopter la diligence que seule la discipline peut produire. Si nous choisissons de chercher des raccourcis dans la vie, nous finirons comme des médiocres peu importe les résolutions que nous prenons au début de l'année. L'Afrique est en mouvement pour ceux qui veulent faire en sorte que leur histoire compte. FROM THE HEAD OR FROM THE HEART? - DE LA TÊTE OU DU CŒUR?

In the last one week or so I have been trying to wind down my blogging activities for the year by asking a series of questions. Today, I will be looking at one more question as I round up for the year. In the course of my interactions, offline and online, throughout the year, I discovered that many people speak from their heads and not from their hearts. What this means for me is that they function more from their cognitive domain by repeating the knowledge they have acquired without an input from their affective domain which backs up their actions by their own experiences. They come up with quotes which they have not lived out and they promote theories and principles which they have not tested. It is quite disappointing, at times, when you need to get something done and you  discover that you have been dealing with an avatar all the while. Do not promote head knowledge that you have not taken to heart because it is with the heart that you connect with people and situations. When your heart is not in your pursuit, your head knowledge alone cannot stand the pressure and your possibility of quitting will be very high. As we close the year and prepare for the new one, we must spend time to examine what our life and purpose is all about. Do not just learn and repeat knowledge, allow what you have learnt to enter your heart and shape the way you think and the way you interact; that is your surest bet to success.

Au cours de la dernière semaine, j'ai essayé de mettre fin à mes activités de blogging pour l'année en posant une série de questions. Aujourd'hui, je vais examiner une autre question entant que conclusion à mes articles pour  cette année. Au cours de mes interactions, hors ligne et en ligne, tout au long de l'année, j'ai découvert que beaucoup parlent de leur tête et non de leur cœur. Ce que cela signifie pour moi, c'est qu'ils fonctionnent davantage à partir de leur domaine cognitif en répétant les connaissances qu'ils ont acquises sans une contribution de leur domaine affectif qui soutient leur actions par leurs propres expériences. Ils proposent des citations qu'ils n'ont pas vécues et ils font la promotion de théories et de principes qu'ils n'ont pas testés. C'est assez décevant, parfois, quand vous avez besoin de faire quelque chose et que vous découvrez que vous avez eu affaire à un avatar pendant ce temps. Ne faites pas la promotion des connaissances de la tête que vous n'avez pas prises à cœur parce que c'est avec le cœur qu'on se connecte avec les gens et les situations. Quand votre cœur n'est pas dans votre poursuite, votre connaissance de la tête seule ne peut pas supporter la pression et votre possibilité de quitter sera très élevée. Alors que nous terminons l'année et nous préparons pour le nouveau, nous devons passer du temps à examiner de quoi s'agissent notre vie et notre but. Ne vous contentez pas d'apprendre et de répéter des connaissances, permettez à ce que vous avez appris d'entrer dans votre cœur et de former votre manière de penser et votre façon d'interagir; c'est le mieux que vous avez a faire pour avoir le vrai succès.
