AFRICA IS A CONTINENT ON THE MOVE AND HER YOUTHS ARE HER GREATEST RESOURCE."We cannot always build a future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future."Franklin D. Roosevelt. MentorAfrica looks to help youths, through various life transition mentoring topics, to prepare youths for development and leadership that will help them change the African narrative whenever the opportunity arises.

#PositiveAfricans : FOCUS! - #PositiveAfricans : FOCALISER!
I wrote a post on #PositiveAfricans focusing
on what is beautiful on the African continent to start this series and then
mistakenly deleted it some days later. I have decided to write another post
with that same tittle as I take a break from this thought. Here is a comment from
someone who read one of the posts on Google+.
“push thru oppressions. they won't go
away overnight. research, read and get educated. become more self-sufficient.
build afrikaan businesses. strengthen afrikaan communities. unite and organize
for the betterment of our future, for our children and descendants to come. be
spiritual. think and behave positively and the universe will send it back to
you. #positiveovernegativeenergy » - Google+/benREI Ltd
There is no way this comment would mean
anything to anyone if we continue looking at only what is wrong in the
continent. This might be very difficult for those of us in the older generation
to swallow but we cannot allow this to affect the psyche of the younger
generation. If someday this continent is going to be something that we remotely
dream of, we have to start dreaming in colour. We have to focus on owning this
continent, the only way to truly own it is to love it. That idea must shivers
down the spine of many, “ouch” what is there to love? Look for something to
love and I assure you there is plenty if you want to tell yourself the truth. . An African proverb says we only find
what we are looking for. Until #PositiveAfricans deliberately decide to focus
on what is of value in this continent, we cannot make any contributions to her developed.
We have to push through the obstacles; we have to research, read, get educated and
become self-sufficient, if not we will make no meaningful progress. Let #PositiveAfricans
believe in and sacrificially build the future of Africa by continuing to focus
on the strengths and the values of the continent. Keep your focus- take your eyes of the
obstacles, just use them as stepping stones.

#PositiveAfricans : PREPARE FOR THE MOMENT - #PositiveAfricans : PREPARONS POUR LE MOMENT
We cannot overemphasis the importance of
preparing for the moment. Many find themselves faced with opportunities they
thought they were ready for but discovered that they had a myopic view of the
situation. It is easier to play the game from the sidelines. We must ensure
that we have a proper understanding of any situation if we really desire to
make an impact. Many often try to work from an idealist point of view forgetting
that life is more real than ideal because there are limitations to overcome
over which you have no control. This is the reason a lot of people fail in
leadership, they had no holistic understanding of the challenges of the
position before assuming responsibilities. #PositiveAfricans must realise that
the work that needs to be done to develop the continent is far more than having
brilliant ideas. Navigating the culture of illiteracy, ignorance and nepotism
is key to implementing brilliant ideas. #PositiveAfricans cannot deceive themselves
into thinking that college degrees and strong desire alone can get the job
done. We must prepare to make huge sacrifices and persevere until the majority
of the people understand that the way of corruption is the way of destruction. Corruption
is not innate to Africa, we must be prepared to do whatever it takes to move it
to the backburner like other more progressive societies have done. #PositiveAfricans
must constantly hold up a picture of what a progressive Africa would like for
all to see.

#PositiveAfricans : ENJOY THE MOMENT! - #PositiveAfricans : PROFITEZ DE L'INSTANT!
I have several friends now in the diaspora who cannot
understand how I can continue living in Africa. In fact one of them was so
filled with disdain recently when she came home to visit as she was telling me
that she really gives kudos to those of us living here because she cannot
imagine herself ever living in such conditions. She said things are not even
stagnate, they are retrogressing. Everything she said was absolutely true and she
was justified in feeling that uninterested but I am always surprised that until
I get all these comments, I really do not focus on these challenges in the
light of wanting to abandon ship. We all do not see life from this same
perspective because of our dreams, expectations and experiences, so we cannot
judge others from our point of view. There are even movements now encouraging African
youths to come over to the West to enjoy things that were plundered from Africa.
Every point of view is fine so long as you can enjoy the moment.
#PositiveAfricans should try to focus on, accept and promote whatever
potentials that Africa has and look for ways of changing what is in their power
to change from wherever they are. There are Africans in diaspora who are doing
more than those in the continent to make sure there is development in Africa. There
are three groups of Africans, those in the continent, those in diaspora and
those in limbo- they are not in diaspora but all they want is to leave- which
means they are not anywhere. #PositiveAfricans means that you should enjoy the
moment from wherever you are by thinking of ways to make sure your life count
and make a difference in the continent. Enjoy your day!
