AFRICA IS A CONTINENT ON THE MOVE AND HER YOUTHS ARE HER GREATEST RESOURCE."We cannot always build a future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future."Franklin D. Roosevelt. MentorAfrica looks to help youths, through various life transition mentoring topics, to prepare youths for development and leadership that will help them change the African narrative whenever the opportunity arises.

SUPPORT. GROWTH. DEVELOPMENT - SUPPORT. CROISSANCE. DÉVELOPPEMENT
The human life is meant to be interdependent, we are supposed to complement each other. The greatest obstacle to human development is the pursuit of a personal agenda to the detriment of the common good. What I have noticed with communities of great poverty is a high degree of suspicion and mistrust that makes people concentrate on making a name and wealth for themselves. Many in these underdeveloped societies believe that discussing their dreams and seeking assistance and partnership is a sign of weakness of could result to their dreams being stolen. Others do not have enough confidence to trust people who have complementary skills to help develop their vision because they feel they might be ridiculed. Without proper self-confidence, trust and interdependence, we cannot go far with our vision. Growth is predicated upon the ability of the community to rally their gifts together for the development of their society. We should pursue our dreams in a way that our personal agenda is woven into the agenda of our immediate community as well as the global one. No man is an island. No matter how gifted you are, your gift still needs another person's input to reach its full potential. Do not let a selfish desire for greatness deprive you and the world from enjoying your gift. It is in supporting and complimenting each other with our gifts and talents that we fully accomplish our dreams and ensure the growth and develop our communities and the world.

THINK SERVICE!- PENSEZ SERVICE!
The worst thing that can happen to any community is for it to have a greater percentage of her population with the "what is in it ?" mentality. It is simply pathetic. There is nothing that hinders development and innovation as much as defining everything in monetary terms. There was a picture of a public health care facility in my state that was posted on Facebook, I hurriedly scrolled so I would not see that kind of eyesore. I saw another post from a francophone medical friend and a doctor was commenting on how frustrated he because of the inadequate facilities he has to work with. I do not know about the situation in that country but I know that in my own country Nigeria, our health care and other public essential facilities have no business with failing infrastructure. The main problem is people in power who have no business in leadership. They do not have and have never had the interest of anybody apart from their miserable selves at heart. Only those who think service can move any nation forward. So long as one is there to serve, even insufficient resources begin to achieve great strides. We all know how stretch our finances when we encounter hard times so nobody with the the mind to serve will fail; there will always be a way. The saddest part is when we have people who used to advocate for social justice in the corridors of power and they suddenly forget all the desire to make a difference. This goes to show that they were frauds because if they were sincere and the system is stifling them, they should quit. That is the only way to prove their sincerity and save their integrity. Until we start thinking service, our development will remain stagnated. If you do not start thinking of serving those you come in contact with now, you will not serve when you are given a larger platform. Service is an attitude, it is not a show.

In the recent week things have happened in my community that should have shaken my faith in my belief in the development of the continent. However, they have rather strengthened my resolve in continuing to do whatever I can to help the youths so they do not continue in this destructive and hopeless path. With the enormity of the developmental issues that confront us in Africa, the best thing we as ordinary citizens can do for now, is to concentrate on the basics rather than on the majors. Solving the basics will create room for us and others to get to the point where we can tackle the majors. Someone shared a picture on Facebook recently that had the simple message that would help us think again before we litter our environment and many people shared it. What that tells me is that many of us can find solutions to the basic problems that plague society rather wait for the time we will be in a position to solve the major challenges. While we are busy advocating that people should think outside the box, there are many that are not even thinking at all. Starting with the basics will help you see how you can help anyone you come across to see a situation differently. If we have this mindset we will discover that most times our thoughts would be solution oriented. What defeats us most times is the fact that we are thinking of the majors and neglecting the basics. Always seeing an opportunity to better a situation or a person within your limitations is the only path to making a difference. Many of us, especially in Africa, are so overwhelmed with the humongous challenges that we miss the many opportunities around us to make a difference in the basics of everyday life. Let's start with the basics and the majors will begin to fall into place.
