AFRICA IS A CONTINENT ON THE MOVE AND HER YOUTHS ARE HER GREATEST RESOURCE."We cannot always build a future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future."Franklin D. Roosevelt. MentorAfrica looks to help youths, through various life transition mentoring topics, to prepare youths for development and leadership that will help them change the African narrative whenever the opportunity arises.

ARE YOU LIVING LIFE TO THE FULL? - VIVEZ-VOUS PLEINEMENT LA VIE?

Needless to say that that definition is putting so much pressure on people that the incidences of depression and suicide have gone up according to recent studies. A fulfilled life cannot never lead to that kind of selfish, inordinate ambition, it gives joy because of the results that it sees in the lives of others. Living life to the full means that your life is a source of inspiration, a leverage for others. You have to understand, decide and create what makes life worth living for you. It means making up your mind to understand and accept who you are. The worst thing that can happen to anybody is to regret what you have no control over. Many people wish they were someone else or they are from somewhere else. Many become so disgruntled and miserable that they cannot live life to the full because they are too stressed out to see opportunities all around them to make a difference. We all know that opportunities are disguised as challenges and if you are not living on purpose, you would hardly see them. My principle vision is to help prepare the upcoming generation of Africans to be mentally ready to make initiate the changes so required for the development of this continent. Hypothetically, let's assume that all the required structures and systems suddenly fall in place, will we have people who are mentally ready to build on these foundations? What is the use of preparing systems for unprepared people? In order to make any lasting impact, we must create little pockets of the kind of society we desire to see everywhere we are found. Do not wait until you are in leadership before you begin to serve and establish the necessary parameters for development. We have to become creative if we have any intention of being a part of the solution to Africa's challenges. More positive little steps and less amplification of the negatives. Start doing what you can and stop constantly looking for those who are not doing what they should be doing. Do have a wonderful day! AFRICA: THE CLOUDS ARE GATHERING - AFRIQUE: LES NUAGES SE RASSEMBLENT
Climatic conditions are pivotal to the vegetation and well being of any environment and its inhabitants. When conditions are favourable and the ecosystem is not interrupted by unwanted elements, it good to see how nature takes care of its own. Everything in its right proportion is what life needs to give us the best in our endeavours. Little drops of rain here and there do not do much good to the vegetation but, when there is more rain than sunshine during the raining season, the crops are happy and farmers are satisfied.

Life needs all the seasons to be complete in their proper cycle, the prolongation of any particular season spells disaster. The problem with Africa is that we have been in a prolonged drought of weak leadership and all the systems have either withered or are completely dead. From the little experience I have gathered in my new found love for gardening, one would do anything to get water to the plants if one intends to have any harvest. When the clouds begin to gather after a long spell of dry weather, it puts smiles on the farmer's face. Africa has suffered devastation in her leadership but little drops of rain are falling through a certain percentage of the citizenry who are beginning to see things in a different light. Much of the attitudinal change is neither visible nor palpable right now, but if the drops of enlightened and determined citizens begin to fall into our institutions, one day, sooner rather than later, the rains will come. Let us keep talking and enlightening ourselves even as we make the little difference we can in our circles of influence. What you are doing might seem like a drop but from the clouds of discontent that have been gathering, you never know when the rain of change will begin to fall. MERITOCRACY AND SERVICE - MERITOCRATIE ET SERVICE

The main problem is that people in power who have no business in leadership. They do not have and have never had the interest of anybody apart from their miserable selves, at heart. In that kind of situation, meritocracy is almost totally absent, nepotism and mediocrity are king. Corruption has been enthroned and it will take an education war to dethrone it. Only those who think service can move any nation forward. So long as one is there to serve, even insufficient resources begin to achieve great strides. We all know how stretch our finances when we encounter hard times, so nobody with the the mind to serve will fail; there will always be a way. The saddest part is when we have people who used to advocate for social justice in the corridors of power and they suddenly forget all the desire to make a difference. This goes to show that they were frauds because if they were sincere and the system is stifling them, they would quit. That is the only way they would prove their sincerity and save their integrity. Even in the private sector, many CEOs are very exploitative because of the poor economic climate. Servant leaders are not only needed in the public sector, a leader should serve anywhere they are found. When you are not interested in the welfare or growth of your staff or your employment is flawed with favouritism, you are not serving. Service creates room for people to grow and be more productive. Until we start thinking service, our development will remain stagnated. If you do not start thinking of serving those you come in contact with now, you will not serve when you are given a larger platform. Service is an attitude, it is not a show. Enjoy your day!
