AFRICA IS A CONTINENT ON THE MOVE AND HER YOUTHS ARE HER GREATEST RESOURCE."We cannot always build a future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future."Franklin D. Roosevelt. MentorAfrica looks to help youths, through various life transition mentoring topics, to prepare youths for development and leadership that will help them change the African narrative whenever the opportunity arises.

WHEN DESPERATION SPEAKS, REASON IS SILENT - QUAND LE DESEPOIR PARLE, LA RAISON GARDE LE SILENCE
The financial situation has become unbearable and you just received a job offer with remunerations far below your expertise and experience. You have waited for things to change for such a long time and opportunity comes for you to either die in dangerous waters or arrive in a hostile environment. Everyone around you is moving fast ahead of you and an opportunity to do something that is a bit shady presents itself. The position is now vacant and the competition is heating up, throwing dirt on others should get you the position. These are scenarios that we live with everyday and many have made their decisions out of desperation; some regret, some pretend and some are happy. What is clear is that when desperation speaks, reason is silent and most decisions made in this kind of situation can be highly regrettable. Most people bear the consequences of decisions such as these which are endured, not enjoyed by their victims. No matter how desperate the situation is, always try to hold onto your core values as your anchor. A little more patience and endurance have been known to help people arrive at a desired point which is that of enduring success and happiness because reason was allowed to have its full sway. Do not be so desperate that you turn your back on reason. Enjoy your week!

Beautiful stories. That is how people who procrastinate or who are too lazy to do anything call them, they do not call them excuses. They have stories of what they want to achieve at any point in time. They have nothing else to offer so they have a lot of time to perfect stories of why they are where they are. If you are not careful you will fall for their "beautiful stories" and feel sorry for them. That is exactly what they want to achieve. Each time you go into storytelling to explain to someone who is challenging you to do more, stop and ask yourself if it is an excuse or a real challenge. If you find yourself resenting genuine advice or someone "puncturing" your "beautiful story", know it is an excuse to either procrastinate or you are too lazy to put your plans to work. Write down your most frequent stories, read them to yourself and see if they are excuses or challenges. Re-write your excuses and make them into challenges with steps that can help you overcome them. When you constantly critique yourself, it is easier to accept and utilise the critiques of others to make your much needed progress.

WHAT'S THE USE? - A QUOI CA SERT?
We often hear or read of people who have broken academic records all over the world but most of them fade into oblivion after the news of their succes dies down. One begins to wonder what happens to all that genius; is there no way that entrepreneurship and innovation can develop alongside great academic prowess? I might be talking out of ignorance because I have not researched enough to see how these group of people have added value to society apart from the profound academic researches they have carried out which of course is very important in human development. However, my concern is that it looks like most of those who creating organisations that are changing the business, cultural, political landscape of nations do not emerge from this group. There are many Africans who have shown themselves to be academically above board even internationally, but their impact is not felt at home or abroad. What is the use if your cerebral prowess if it does not impact on most of everyday life? I believe that the missing link is the fact that many in this category are too busy trying to get good grades that they do not focus on what they will use the knowledge to do to change the landscape beyond research. Just thinking... Enjoy your day!
