While working with some members of the National Youth
Service Corps (the one year compulsory national service after graduation) in
Warri, Nigeria, a matter arose. Someone raised a point that some nations were
more developed than others because there was no level playing field. As the
discussion progressed in this direction, I asked them what they had done with
the internet since graduation. Apart from just one of them, all the others said
they were either on Facebook or they were twitting with friends; which means that
all they were interested in was majorly the tabloid news. The only one that
said she had started an online diploma course said that some time not too long
from this meeting, she just said to herself that she could gain more than
chatting with friends and checking up on others with her internet services. She
is presently a nurse but she has always wanted to be a pharmacist and this
online course, which is free by the way, is helping her go in the direction she
has always wanted. Consequently, we agreed that the World Wide Web is
helping to create some form of level playing field for those who are ready to
acquire knowledge to better themselves and the world around them. Knowledge and
the use of it make the difference between the successful and others. Do something
with the opportunities all around you to contribute your quota to humanity. Educate
yourself with all you have around you, KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.
