AFRICA IS A CONTINENT ON THE MOVE AND HER YOUTHS ARE HER GREATEST RESOURCE."We cannot always build a future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future."Franklin D. Roosevelt. MentorAfrica looks to help youths, through various life transition mentoring topics, to prepare youths for development and leadership that will help them change the African narrative whenever the opportunity arises.

LEADERSHIP, NOT BY FORCE - LE LEADERSHIP, PAS PAR LA FORCE
“The boss is around” someone whispered.
Everyone started scurrying around, getting to their posts
and keeping an appearance of “dedicated employees”. Why would the appearance of
a leader warrant such a situation? This scenario can be an experience anywhere
leadership is disconnected from followership.
A leader does not instill fear. A leader should not be
driven by power. When things only progress when you are present, as a leader
you should check yourself. When people are quiet in meetings and allow you
alone to speak and speak only when you ask them to, you are not a leader. A leader
should empower others, this is the only time there will be progress and
development.
A leader empowers people to learn, become better and contribute
to growth and success. People do not become better and more productive just by
training, they become better in an environment that allows them to dream and
create. Enjoy your day!

WHAT DO LEADERS DO? - QUE FONT LES LEADERS?
Everybody congratulated him immediately he got the
appointment because this is something he had waited on for a while. There was
celebration, there was drinking and merriment and then he settled down to
business. Shortly after he took over he started complaining to whoever cared to
listen. It was amusing because during departmental meetings, he was most vocal
in criticizing what went on in the department. When he was appointed we all expected
that he would hit the ground running since he was familiar with the workings in
the college and the department. He knew the problems and he gave the impression
that he understood what needed to be done that was why he wanted to head the
department.
“The former head of department did not do anything to help
this Department”
“Who admitted these kinds of students, by the way?”
“Why is there so much delay in the release of the monthly
subvention?”
On and on he went and soon everyone began to avoid him
because we were all weary of his complaints and excuses.
Leaders inspire others, the next time you aspire to leadership,
remember that principle. In whatever sphere of leadership you find
yourself, people under you should be inspired to become better. Whatever hurdles
you find on your way should help you leap forward rather than stop you from
going further. Any
leader who does not see challenges as stepping stones just has a title, he/she
is not a leader. Those who see only excuses cannot inspire anyone, they have no
business in leadership. People look to leaders for solutions not for
excuses, they want a leader who can show them that problems can be overcome if
we confront them. What are you doing to inspire others? Enjoy your day!

THIS IS HAPPENING!
Have you ever reached a point in your life and just said "This cannot be happening" I believe that is where a lot of Nigerians are right now and unfortunately "This is happening" Everyday you search through a pile of rubbish news and just hope you can get something to hold unto but the more you search the more rotten things get. There are two ways to react to all this; be discouraged and give up or decide to hold on and look for something you can do turn thing around. "Never! Not my cup of tea!" most will say and that is how we got here.
Decay does not start with the whole, it starts with a portion and if it is unchecked, the whole will be affected. "This is happening" and it is a free fall right now but let us not allow it to reach rock bottom. We can stop the rot before it eats the next generation. Let us reach them and stop the decay before it swallows them up. Let us educate them and help them see life differently.
