WHAT WOULD WE BE WITHOUT THEM? - QUE SERIONS NOUS SANS EUX?

It is fascinating how fast the world has become due to the amount of available information. It is almost a whirlwind with everything happening so fast; governments have been brought down and others have been helped to succeed, crisis have been averted and at other times fueled, the decisions in all sphere of life have been influenced by the shear amount of information available these days. #raiseyourvoice. Conventional and non-conventional media have played a major role in how things are run around the world. Against this backdrop is the fact that more reporters around the world are exposed to scrutiny from more governments and institutions that have power to encourage or disrupt their work. Voices around the world are now being repressed by power brokers who do not want information about their activities to be brought to the public. There are cases of bloggers that have been murdered or incarcerated, this is something that was akin only to conventional journalism. However this has not stopped many more from raising their voices and it is for this reason that we celebrate everyone who has taken it upon themselves to make the world a better place by making information available in the public space #raiseyourvoice. Even as we celebrate, we should try to maintain a good code of conduct #raiseyourvoice and stop exaggerating in order to pull traffic. Journalists, mainstream or online, have been known to have submitted themselves to the wimps and caprices of power brokers in all segments of society and gone ahead to publish blatant lies or untoward stories. We would not allow these ones to keep everyone else from #raiseyourvoice and help get information to all who need it to make the world a better place. HAPPY BLOG ACTION DAY 2015!

OF FREEDOM AND RESPONSIBILITY - QUESTION DE LIBERTE ET RESPONSABILITE

A friend on LinkedIn saw my post on the Nigerian Independence and sent me a congratulatory message which brought back a principle that I have talked about in one of my blog posts to the fore once more. He wished us a happy anniversary but reminded us that freedom comes with responsibilities. This is very important because a lot of people who look for one form of freedom or another almost always forget to prepare for the responsibilities that come with freedom to do what they desire. When we are in situations where we experience restrictions, we are in structures that have been put in place by others who are also responsible for maintaining them. However, if we step out on our own, we then have to put these structures in place and maintain them, this is where a lot of us fall apart. Whether it is freedom from colonial masters or freedom from your present employment to set up your own enterprise, the principle is the same. Setting up a system and maintaining it takes a lot of discipline and that is a word that has negative connotations for a lot of people. You cannot rely on someone else's discipline to work your life, you have to take ownership and responsibility of your vision if you intend to succeed. If you do not take ownership, you cannot completely sever yourself from the restrictions of your past and you will keep going back for help in order to survive. Freedom is good but without appropriately taken on the responsibility it demands, you enter into a worse form of bondage. Like it is seen all over Africa, the responsibility of freedom is lacking, so we have put ourselves back in the hands of colonial masters and then we have the audacity to complain. The sooner we realise this the earlier we will begin to do something about it.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE, MY NIGERIA! - BON ANIVERSSAIRE - MON NIGERIA!

Happy Independence! Some are wondering why we should even bother and I don't really blame them. On the other hand, why not? Nigeria has come a very long way whether we seem to be going backwards or not; there are two ways of looking at a drinking glass, they say, either you see it half full or half empty. I am one of those who have chosen to see the glass half full because I know that after this recycling madness, a people would arise to take this nation forward: the youths. Those of us in this category, and I can see a lot of people rising to this challenge, have made up our minds to help the next generation take over. I SALUTE YOU ALL.
We cannot afford to continue the madness, we have to take our destiny in our own hands and do whatever
is in our power to bring the good out of all the gloom that is around us. In order to do this we have to criticize but do less of that and think about what we can do with what we and where we are. This means if you can talk or read or make friends, you can make a difference. Think more and criticize less and you would soon discover that there is something you can offer in the direction of change to benefit all. THANK YOU ALL.
