Lorsque je communique avec des gens, la première chose qui me frappe, en particulier avec ceux qui essaient de faire une différence dans leur vie, est le fait qu’ils sont submergés par les problèmes de la société. Quelle que soit la taille de la communauté, les problèmes semblent se superposer. Si l’on essaie de comprendre ce qu’est un problème, il y a tant d’autres facteurs sous-jacents, qui sont eux-mêmes des problèmes et qui rendent la situation très compliquée et pénible. Parfois, même tenter de faire quoi que ce soit semble être totalement une perte de temps, de sorte que beaucoup préféreraient simplement vivre leur vie, oubliant tout ce qui se passait autour d'eux. Les médias sont chargés chaque jour des événements pénibles qui se passent partout dans le monde. Si vous êtes parmi ceux qui comptent faire quelque chose pour changer quelque chose, ça peut être très décourageant. La vie devient de plus en plus compliquée et on le trouve presque impossible de faire quoique ce soit. Mais pour moi surtout ici en Afrique où il semble que rien ne bouge, on doit reconnaître sa don et trouver l'espace où cela fonctionnera et se concentrer là dessus. Personne ne peut tout changer ou avancer, mais il y a toujours quelque problème qu'on peut résoudre dans un certain mesure. Si nous nous focalisons sur un défi que nous pouvons entreprendre avec notre talent et nos efforts, c'est mieux d'y rester au lieu de permettre à l'ensemble des défis de nous décourager. Il n'y a rien de si insignifiant qu'on doit laisser tomber, si vous faites votre part et je fais la mienne, petit à petit nous pouvons décortiquer la complexité et la vie devient un plus intéressante pour tout le monde. When I interact with people, the first thing that strikes me, especially those who are trying to make a difference with their lives, is the fact that they are overwhelmed by the problems in the society. No matter how small a community is, the problems seem to be in layers. As one is trying to understand what a problem is, there is the unravelling of so many other underlying factors which are themselves problems that make the situation become very complicated and distressing. At times, it seems like a total waste of time to even attempt to do anything, so many would rather just live their lives oblivious of the goings-on around them. The media is busy every day with painful events happening around the world. If you are among those who intend to do something to change something, it can be very discouraging. Life becomes more and more complicated and we find it almost impossible to do anything. But for me especially here in Africa where it seems that nothing moves, we must recognize our gift and find the space where it will work and focus on it. Nobody can change or improve everything, but there is always some problem that can be solved to a certain extent. If we focus on a challenge that we can undertake with our talent and efforts, it is better to stay there than to allow all the challenges put together to discourage us. There is no insignificant contribution, if you do your part and I do mine, little by little we can dissect the complexity and life becomes more interesting for everyone.
